Game chat. For people who love the game and want to talk about it with each other.
After reading most of the comments, I realize you all are quite good! Something I've been wondering about: It seems some people have gotten an amazing number of words out of just one puzzle. I think the most I've ever been able to manage was 35 total words from the word "escrow." Any thoughts on this?
I haven't posted here before, but I have been lurking a little. Thought I'd test the waters before jumping in! :)
Cheryl, DOH might not be a bonus word, but DUH is! ;)
OPAL, I just noticed today that when you check the meaning of a word, the dictionary reference is not always the same. Check out a few ... They seem to "cherry pick" words from different sources. We used to play a game called Jotto, where you tried to guess a five letter word by guessing words, and being told how many letters of your secret word were in the guessed word. It was good strategy to choose a secret word like ocean. Three vowels, and beginning with a vowel. For some reason, it seems to be pretty universal that we expect words to begin with a consonant. I think OD 1 was attempting "Pig Latin" to make a similar point about the difficulty of finding words that start with a vowel.
Seems to me that the dictionary that is used must be from GenX or another young generation. I KNOW some of the slang words would not be allowed in the Scrabble game I played as a child. I agree, the words beginning with a vowel are more difficult. Ocean usually takes me a few, however, rodeo almost always stumps me for some reason. Thanks for all of the new words but quite sure they won't stick in my brain until I come across them a few times. OD1, thanks for confusing me. Some people are gullible. The Brits I used to work with always said "Joke flag, Judy!" Ok. On to see the whiner's chat. Can't wait to hear about the lier. Jeff, I also saw Phoenix and Phalanx a couple of times this weekend. Last weekend I saw Phoenix for the first time so pressed the Aa button to see the definition and had to call my son in Phoenix to tell him what his city's name means. Lol.
You’ve always spoken my language od1 🤗
...hoping someone smiles at that one. My spell check made that really difficult!

It seems we all seem to have the same problems with words starting with a vowel though l don’t seem to have as much problem with the ones starting with “o”. Then just when you use a hint you realize that duh, @ l should have known that!” I too have a hard time with inlay or inlaid. There are a lot of medical words that l find (retired RN) that are bonus words or not even recognized.
Thanks for your posts. They cleared up a few questions for me. I always wondered if other players in my group of the tournament had the same words as I did. Since you and I played in the same group last weekend, and I didn't have either Phoenix or Phalanx, I assume that players just have whatever words are at the level they were on when the tournament began. In a way, that makes the competition more fair, since more experienced players have more difficult words. Also, I've begun to associate invisible words (earl and earn are two I frequently miss) with a more "visible" word. If I see canoe, I'm reminded of ocean, once and acne ... all beginning vowel words that are easy to miss. And before I waste a hint, I have started to automatically look for words beginning with a vowel. So if you see near or real, you know that earn or earl are hiding in there! ;)
Some new or notable words I jotted down this weekend:
inlay - an oldie, but I often have trouble seeing it
ocean - more recent, but also "invisible" (maybe it's the leading-vowel thing),
getup - to me that should be hyphenated and I often have trouble seeing those without the hyphen, a classic example is "sitcom"
elves - I always want to put in "Elvis" :)
earl - another musical one, whenever I see this one I start hearing "Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl..." : )
Wordsmithwick, yeah I got a chuckle too over the "LIER" post. But, given what Peoplefun tells us, it's a natural reaction. If you don' t know any better, it's reasonable to assume that there is one tournament per weekend. If you don't know any better. it's reasonable to assume that any player that gets 1000 points in a minute is cheating. Peoplefun could make things better for everyone if they put things like that in their FAQ.
Opal, I agree on the repetition. I know I got both "phoenix" and "phalanx" twice this weekend (they stick in your memory) and it seemed like there were other words that came up 3 or even 4 times. FWIW, I'm at level 6857 and covered about 360 levels this weekend.
Bonus word for today, GYRE
Also encountered LIMBIC inside BULIMIC.
SAPPHIRE, Thanks for the contact email.
OPAL, Great idea about hiring us to create new puzzles! ;)
While they are fixing things, they could add a new
dictionary that recognizes more words. I still get
frustrated when I enter perfectly good words and
they are rejected. Are they trying to keep us from
earning an extra coin that would buy us
one hundredth of a hint? Sorry, I forgot this was
a whine free zone!
Speaking of whining, I checked out the cheating
comments section. Had to chuckle at the one
who said, "Anyone who says they won the last
tournament is a LIER!" And at the response above it!
Anonymous, yes, email PeopleSoft as they do answer emails. I have no idea how that could happen, has never happened to me. Wordsmithwick, I try to read all of the posts prior to posting but somehow missed Jeff's. Maybe my brain was on overload from so many hours of playing. I now know that I definitely am not even in the top of the fastest players from some of your your Stats. I start out fast but then sizzle out. Congrats to everyone. I noticed a lot of recycled puzzles this tournament. Perhaps PeopleFun needs to hire some of us to create NEW puzzles. Hahaha.
Anonymous (and others with similar questions): you might get further by emailing them (no idea if they read those either but it's listed as the developer contact in Google Play)
Anonymous, no one from People Fun ever answers any of our questions on this chat, and I doubt anyone knows the answer. Sorry.
how could I be sent back to 2,000 after reaching 3,000?
