Can someone explain tournaments plz???
Weekend Tournaments begin automatically Friday evenings (Eastern time) and last until late Sunday night;
Friday’s, 6 pm Eastern time
53 hours (or less, depending on when you enter)
You enter just by playing online and completing a puzzle level while the tournament is active.
The latest time to enter the weekend tournament is Sunday around 1 pm Central time.
WHO DO YOU PLAY AGAINST?
You and 99 other random (or so it seems) players who start at that same time are in your tournament.
Your tournament score is the total number of words you solve during the duration of the tournament. Thus includes Bonus words (the words that are not in the puzzle but they allow). Each word you solve is represented by a star ⭐️—that is why it is called a star tournament. Just solve the puzzles like you normally would.
You can check your overall score as you progress by tapping the ⭐️ icon at the top middle of the puzzle page or by tapping on the star tournament icon on the home page.
You will also see your rank in the tournament with your fellow competitors, and what each placement in the tournament will give you when the tournament ends (ie. crown points [silver crowns] and coin [yellow coins].
There are 4 seasonal tournaments during the year where you can win crown points from the weekend tournaments.
The crown points go towards your seasonal crown (that pointy thing over your name) which other players can see. The level of the crown depends on the crown points you’ve won through the weekend tournaments. You can view the types of crowns and the scores to win them by tapping on the crown icon at bottom left of home page.
(Note, any previous crown won over your name is replaced by the crown in the current tournament you are playing in.)
If you are above level 65, you can play in team tournaments, too, It is the exact same weekend tournament, but your individual score is also added to the team score. Click on the team icon to join a team. Benefits of team play include free hints, chatting with teammates, and additional coins if your team places well. (Teams play against 49 other random teams based on when any player on your team starts to play in the weekend tournament.)
(Note: most teams expect people to play in the weekend tournament, so if you don’t play much on weekends, joining a team is not a great idea)
These are the basics of tournaments as of July 11, 2020.
