MZD, Love the word picture!
CHARLIE, Glad you are on rescue and recovery.
MANCO and all, If you've seen Game of Thrones, it kind of reminds me of the flooded Valyria, where the creepy creatures with "greyscale" reach out to grab the unsuspecting! ;)
CHARLIE, Afew of us do "live the game" on tournament weekends! ;)
Momma56, I apologize for getting carried away in my earlier post. We recently had another poster who made a point of correcting people's spelling and grammar, and was rather snotty about it. I spent too many years of my life being edited and corrected by others about picky little things that really didn't matter. Your comment about enjoying correcting others turned me sideways, as I can assure you that others don't enjoy being corrected. I can relate to being old and forgetful, but "not quite dead yet" (Monty Python reference).
I have very mixed reactions to your post.
My first is that people generally don't appreciate having their grammar corrected.
My second is that maybe you'd like to see how it feels to be on the receiving end. Unless you are speaking about swear words, you would not be correcting "bad English language", you would be correcting grammar, or incorrect usage of the English language. And if you were "still able to grammar" you would know that grammar is a noun, not a verb, and not say "to grammar". You accuse unknown others of cheating, yet don't consider buying hints as cheating. (I'm sure Wordscapes doesn't consider it cheating either, as they make lots of money selling them to you.) And if you had any common sense, you'd know that it's impossible to tell who is using cheat sites; so no one can really "ban them from the tournaments". If, like so many people, you have suffered brain damage, or like me are in the early stages of Azheimers, I apologize for rudely correcting you, and wish you well. If, on the other hand you have spent your life rudely correcting others (who were probably right in the first place) ...
How does it feel?
P.S. I'm giving you a pass on the "ain't" and assuming that it was a colloquialism. You can run and look that up to see if I spelled it correctly.
CHARLIE, Love the "unpaid defacto data entry clerk" comment for cheaters! You are a perfect example of "getting better, not bitter" players. Congrats on reaching your goal of scoring over 10,000 points in a tournament. I'm not quite there yet!
To the Anonymous who asked about when the next tournament starts:
They start every Friday at 5 PM EST and end on Sunday at 10 or 11 PM EST. There is a countdown clock that tells you how many hours and minutes are left in the tournament.
The crown rewards are new, and we are all trying to figure them out. Last weekend the top 3 received
50, 40, and 30 crown points.
The next group, from 4th to around 30th received 20,
And the final group to about 66th received 10.
We're not sure how the crown points are going to translate into coins at the end of a "season", but I suspect it will be similar to the four segments in the daily puzzles where points increase in each box. You can see this grid by clicking on the avatar on the lower left of your screen which may or may not have a crown on it. People Fun has responded to some of our questions by saying that they are still working out bugs in the system, and not everyone has them yet.
The possibility of cheating exists. There are sites out there that have all of the answers. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that winning this way is an accomplishment. But many of your anonymous posts complain of someone winning in the last few hours of the game after you have thought you had won. You shouldn't expect anything else. Most of the really fast competitive players enjoy racing at the end. I had a 1500 point lead on Sunday, and kept checking back to see where I was standing. After an hour, I was down to a 1000 point lead, and started playing again. My opponent was about the same speed as I, and I knew that if I kept playing s/he couldn't pass me. But if I had just quit because I thought a 1500 point lead with 3 hours left in the tournament was enough, I would have been in 2nd. Many players can score 500 points an hour, and a few over 1000 points an hour without cheating.
MANCO, You should post that as a new idea ...
Marezydoats, You have always been appropriate in your comments, no worries. He was referring to someone who basically accused all of the people who try to sync together as liars and cheaters. This is the appropriate forum in which to do so, but not exactly a good way to "win friends and influence people."
Yep, Have fun, CHARLIE!
Marezydoats, yes, the In Bloom puzzles get harder as you get into higher levels. I'm past level 5000 on one of my devices. The early levels do seem easier than Wordscapes. It helped my Granddaughter when she was learning how to read. When the words started getting too hard for her, I installed a new one; so she could have more success.
DRAGON, Thanks for the respect. It's mutual!
Love your sorel/loser combo!
KATZ, A belated Merry Solstice to you! ;)
Jacqkatz, Apparently my spellcheck has never seen a cqk combination and has been autocorrecting my posts. It just tried to correct cqk to cake. I was referring to the post that you later apologized for, when you were confusing coins with points. I agree with CHARLIE that you seem to have a chip on your shoulder. You accused us of being an elitist group, when we had taken pains to welcome you, and anyone else to join in, and answer questions for people who are new or confused. And yes, you have had a previous exchange with CHARLIE, when he tried to welcome you to the chat group.
Then you were "incredulous" at LAURA CHRISTINA's score of 14000, which means "unable or unwilling to believe".
The final straw for me, and I'm guessing for CHARLIE, was when you insulted all of us by implying that we were all cheating each other and then lying about it during the sync last weekend. I feel sad for you that you have such a suspicious nature. I don't intend on communicating with you further. CHARLIE, Thanks for the backup!
Jackatz, Thank you for avoiding our obsessed group. I had originally invited you to join our "tribe" after reading a humorous post of yours, thinking that you were a kindred spirit. Opal had apparently seen earlier posts of yours which were more in line with your accusatory nature, and wondered why I was inviting you. You obviously belong here on the "They must be cheating, because I can't get those kind of scores" forum. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, and as blessed a New Year as your suspicious nature will allow.
Jaqkatz, Six of our chat group "synced" with each other, so their scores are verifiable by each other. The highest score among them was 15,000 plus. I synced with Opal, and due to a rotator cuff injury was only able to play Friday and Saturday, but I kept checking scores to be sure I wasn't overtaken by third. Between the game she played with me, in which she scored over 7,000, and her other game, she scored well over 16000. I find it offensive that you keep accusing people of cheating, just because you are unable to achieve those scores yourself. At least I'm glad you are confining your accusations to the cheating forum.
JACKATZ, I've been going to my google search and "wordscapes tournament rules" pops up. Then I go to the top of that page and hit "General" with a back arrow, and "Game Chat" is the first one to pop up there. I didn't realize you could get to it from settings in the game. Thanks SAPPHIRE, OPAL and KATZ.
REMINDER TO NEWBIES:
Set up your puzzle with all but one word BEFORE the tournament starts at 2 PM Pacific time tonight, and change your name to add "CHAT_ " so it's easier to recognize each other. I try to leave a three letter word with two of the letters already filled in so that I'm sure to get it right.
Anonymous, there are thousands of tournaments going on during the weekend. There are usually 100 people in each group, although I have occasionally seen fewer as more people are entered.
Jacqkats, see the link SAPPHIRE posted below. We are just a group of people who found a forum started by Paddling Nana for those who love the game. We have been successful at "syncing" with each other by choosing a time, or a few different times to accommodate different time zones, and trying to end up in the same tournament. Our record number is five, which we have achieved twice. We change our names to send each other brief encouragements, and sometimes race each other.
Jacqkats, come on over to game chat ... I think you are part of our tribe! ;)
DRAGON, Well said, and thanks for a few new words that I didn't know were accepted by the game.
CHARLIE, We miss you over at chat. I had to check over here to see if you were still alive! ;)
ANONYMOUS, You are correct, once you pass the 6000 level, you go into "masters level" and the puzzles start recycling with a few new ones thrown in here and there.
AMY, When you said you could buy packages with your coins, I hope you didn't mean the packages in the shopping cart, or any of the popup screens trying to sell you bees, rockets and bullseyes. Those cost real money, and are being charged to wherever your in app purchases are charged, like google play or apple's equivalent.
Charlie is intelligent, helpful, and has a great sense of humor. He is even thoughtful enough to give "Anonymous" the benefit of the doubt, and assume that he or she may be an adolescent, rather than responding to name calling by sinking to your level. Name calling is for bullies ... Don't be one!
OPAL, Congrats on your new high score!
CHARLIE, I. appear to have become your "Grammar Nazi" in your head. I apologize! I was raised by a perfectionist and became one myself. I used to be proud of it. As I've grown older, I now see what a handicap it can be ... a form of OCD. It kept me from pursuing some dreams, because if I couldn't do it perfectly, I wouldn't continue to try. If at first you don't excel, quit and never try again! I call it "The Paralyzed Perfectionist" ... So no worries about typos! But I do have to tell you that "prolly" has made the dictionary as a slang colloquialism for probably ... And I don't think you're a weirdo! You're just a really funny guy. Love your "Prolly" answer to the accusation! Thanks for the laughs!
Paddling Nana, I can't imagine sitting through all of those ads! Especially now that you can't go in airplane mode and still score in tournaments anymore. I still recommend CHARLIE to pay for the app, as he's always saying he's slower. Easy way to be faster during tournaments.
CHARLIE, Now that you can't play offline anymore, it's definitely worth it to ditch the ads!
Paddling Nana, I agree. I doubt that it's possible to win a tournament if you have to sit through ads.
CHARLIE, You make me laugh! I wasn't going to correct your spelling this time!
OPAL, Good to hear from you! I don't know if you are right, but it's possible. Someone had mentioned TAE as a bonus word, but I've never had it accepted. I do think some people cheat ... but not likely very many. Some are just faster than I am, or play longer, or both! Still praying for you and your husband. Blessings to you!
KATZ, I didn't know about that either, but it could explain how I entered a tournament and the #1 player already had 300+ points in less than a minute ... I ditched that game and started a new one on hubby's device instead. It just seemed too fishy ... they ended up with over 18000 points.
Buffy, yes there is a site that has all of the answers to the first 6000 puzzles. I can't see how anyone would enjoy "winning" by copying all of the answers. Kind of just sad and pathetic.
Dragon, on the other forum someone mentioned that some words worked in one puzzle but not in others. I sometimes wonder if the dictionaries are different for those who started playing when there were only 6000 levels vs those of us who started after the Masters levels that are unlimited.
Dragon, Did you actually get TAE to work in a puzzle? I know it's a word, but I just tried it in a puzzle word talent, and it wouldn't accept it as a bonus word.
TASCIONI, Yes, many people are capable of putting in words as fast as their fingers can swipe the letters in. And not everyone has the same puzzles. It's based on the level you are on when the tournament begins. Some people may also be using cheat sites to copy the words. There's really nothing People Fun can do about that. Just enjoy the game for itself, or don't play.
Anonymous, only during tournaments.
Jake, I don't think so. There are 10,000,000 downloads of this game, meaning 100,000 tournaments of 100 each could be going on at once. So don't worry that people think you are cheating if you are not. Just play when you want and enjoy the game.
TAE, you mean Wordscapes in Bloom? I believe that it won't let people compete in tournaments when they are offline, probably to address the issues of people playing offline and suddenly "appearing from nowhere" to win tournaments.
Anonymous, tourneys are only active from Friday, 6 PM Eastern to Sunday, I think 11:00 PM Eastern.
Tae Brumit, If you don't want to play in tournaments on weekends, try Wordscapes in Bloom. Very similar, but no tournaments.
Scarlet, there are millions of downloads of this game. There are possibly hundreds of thousands of tournaments going on simultaneously. There are only one hundred people in each tournament group. So you are number one in your group of one hundred, and I am number one in mine.
Murmur, I'm pretty sure that you are right, when the tournament begins, you are each at whatever level you were playing when the tournament began.
Charlie and Cheryl, Propriety is a noun, so there is no such thing as "propriety strategy" ... You could "observe the proprieties" while using strategy.
OPAL, OKAY! I'll play nice! ;)
Manco, I missed that ... Now I can stop worrying about her! ;)
Manco and Anonymous, I thought your replies to Missy were pretty hilarious. Then it occurred to me that she might be a child. Of course, if she is, we should make allowances. If she's an adult, it will probably upset her to realize I thought she was childish. Kind of a "heads I win, tails you lose" situation.
Laura Christina Warren, I know what you mean ...
Some of the best movies of all time were oldies ...
Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, Wizard of Oz, etc.
But they had some real stinkers too ...
B movies right off the production lines ...
But how do you explain the Lon Chaney movie?
Tournaments start every Friday at 3:00 PM Pacific Coast time. You may need to complete 400 to 500 levels before the tournament pops up on your screen. After that happens, you just need to finish a puzzle to enter.
Laura Christina Warren, that would only prove that YOU are not cheating, and that it is possible to put up the kinds of scores some people are achieving. The kinds of jumps that are not humanly possible, thousands of points in minutes, are likely to be people playing offline. I enjoyed seeing a player "Come from nowhere" and jump straight into 3rd place. They can't see others scores, and I'm sure they were disappointed that I and another player were way ahead of him. It's not cheating, but it's a sneaky way to win. Some people call it "stealth" mode, some "snipers", and some are just trying to save data or avoid ads. It's usually players who aren't fast enough to win in a head to head competition. There are also cheat sites where you can literally copy every answer, but I feel sorry for anyone who calls that "winning". Someone on here claims to be able to hack the system and give themselves any score they want. If it's true, why do it?
You're welcome, Paul.
Hi Paul, Paddling Nana (canoes) started a new chat for people who love the game. On my notepad right now, I see in the top left corner of this page "I suggest you ..." and underneath it a blue link called "general". If you click on that word it will take you to a number of choices. Last time I was there, it was the top one, but they move around. It is not on Facebook. If you want to play on the weekends without getting sucked into a tournament, download "Wordscapes in bloom" ... very similar, different backgrounds, ladybugs and butterflies. No tournaments. Make sure to set your Google play to require verification instead of one tap purchases. Very easy to accidentally tap a purchase, because they keep popping up and seem larger than on Wordscapes.
You can use the coins to buy hints. That's all they are really good for.
Paul, tap the general arrow at the top right of your screen, and the look for game chat post by paddlingnana. We have a number of players, including another Aussie named Shell. Also, if you want to win tournaments, pay the $2.99 to get rid of the ads, or play in airplane mode for short periods of time. You won't see the other people's scores when you are in airplane mode, so it will look like you are in first place until you go back online.
One more time ...
The people who "come out of nowhere" to win have been playing offline, or in airplane mode. Sometimes to save data, sometimes to avoid ads, sometimes actually on an airplane. It's not technically cheating. They can't see the scores unless they go back online, and they are taking a chance that they may end up way behind. Slower people sometimes use it as a strategy, because they can't keep up in a head to head race. There are also people who are just reallyfast. They've played many of the levels before and can solve them as fast as their fingers can move. There are also cheat sites, and I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that going to one of them and copying all of the answers is "winning ". There was even a woman who admitted to basically "buying" her win, by buying lots of hints, rockets and bees. I'm sure Wordscapes LOVES people like that, and doesn't consider it cheating. So enjoy the game for itself, assume that if you lose at the last minute that either you were hit by a "sniper" who was playing off line, or someone "buying" the answers, or maybe just by someone who is faster.
Laura Christina, I take it back. Eld and Dell just worked ...
Laura Christina, pretty sure they changed the dictionary. They admitted on another post that they are deliberately suppressing some of the bonus words. I found a scrabble anagram solver and tried a bunch of their words. I'd say that at least half don't work on wordscapes. Seems very cheap to me, considering it takes 100 coins to earn a hint, and you only earn one coin per bonus word. I don't think deliberately or eld work either, but I could be wrong. I find it discouraging when it rejects a valid word. They said they were considering changing it. I hope they do.
I'm new at Wordscapes, and started browsing this post for pointers. Two things have confused me. One, a post by Linda Morgan saying that she regularly gets up to 70 words a puzzle, and the other by someone whose name I forgot giving examples of odd short words that could be used as bonus words. I tried some of them, and more than half were rejected (dree, rede, eth, het, etc.) I'm wondering if there was a change in the dictionary that now disallows odd and archaic words, and the newer version with unlimited levels doesn't accept them. I had already noticed that I didn't get credit for perfectly normal words, and thought it cheap of the game to deny me a coin for it. Any thoughts?
PRAYERS FOR THE FAMILIES OF THE FIREFIGHTERS WHO WERE LOST, AND FOR THE SAFETY OF THOSE WHO ARE STILL BATTLING THE BLAZES.
CHARLIE, If you start out with anything but Speedo, I'll be terribly disappointed! ;)
OPAL, I might have mixed up the weekend. I'm syncing with CHARLIE and anyone else who wants to try on Saturday 7:05 AM PST, 9:05 CST (CHARLIE SYNC TIME!) 10:05 EST.
Also trying for a half hour after the tournament starts on Friday for TONY's first sync, but not planning to play much in either.
February 7th is the weekend I'm not planning to sync because of my "map and zap" cardiac ablation procedure.
Thanks CHARLIE ... AND TONY.
Just got on Medicare Part B. Didn't have the opportunity to pick a supplemental plan like those offered by United, HMO'S, etc. Recently discovered Good Rx that gives better drug rates than hubby's PPO Copayments. Check it out if you are on expensive meds!
MANCO, You say it fine!
CHARLIE, relieved! Does "zeroed out" mean the same thing hubby says when he wants to "write someone off, like a bad debt" or end the relationship completely? If so, happy you have your friend back!
TONY, Amen to everything you wrote, especially about the "older and wiser" elements of the group.
CHERYL, Sad, but true. I lost a brother and sister to cancer.
OPAL, So happy your husband beat the statistics!
MAREZYDOATS, CUTE! Where's the blush icon? ;)
AMY, and others concerned about the addictive nature of the game .. There are lots of worse addictions!
SPEAKING OF WHICH ...
DOES ANYONE WANT A LATER SYNC TIME ON FRIDAY NIGHT BESIDES THE CURRENT ONE, A HALF HOUR AFTER TOURNAMENT START?
I might try that one as an observer, but I'm not planning on playing much until Saturday morning.
TONY, Your description of the varying roles in this group was cute. Is it just me, or does my role sound suspiciously like a MOM? ;)
AMY and OPAL, Love the progression of a week in the life of a Wordscapes Addict! ;)
I don't want to take up too much space going back on the thread to comment on all of the other funny comments. Wish we had the like and laughter comment capability of Facebook here! But I do want to let INKS that I am praying for her hubby. CHARLIE, I hope that your comments about the new cancer treatment were directed to the others in the group, and that you haven't been battling cancer, and I missed it in one of the earlier threads! Going to try to actually sleep tonight. Blessings to all ya'all!
INKSPIRATION, The CC or Complainers about Cheating site we refer to is another suggestion thread of the wordscapes.uservoice.com forum that this Game chat is on. It is titled "WordscapesTournament Cheating!" and was begun on September 11, 2018. A number of funny and helpful people started trying to explain to people that it usually wasn't a case of cheating, and in the course of doing so, became an odd little anomaly that made a "social media" thread there. Tiring of the constant negativity of people on that thread, and realizing that we were, in all fairness, commenting on a site that was INTENDED for people who wanted to complain about cheating, Paddling Nana started a new thread called Game Chat, and the funny and helpful people migrated over here. CHARLIE, KUDOS on inviting Poggie T. over. She sounds like a kindred spirit. I think in word pictures, and I could see CHARLIE rowing over there and rescuing nice newbies from the morass of meanness, and shooting a few crocodiles on his way! :) A while back, I invited someone that I thought would enjoy this group to come on over. She ended up attacking CHARLIE for misspelling a word, and basically calling us all obsessed with syncing and saying that we needed to get a life. (So, OKAY, she may have had a point there! ;) Then she ended up by implying that we had to be cheating, because she, with her many degrees and giant intellect couldn't get those kind of scores. That's when a few started calling her "J" words, my favorite of which was Jackass! (I forgot that she was upset that I misspelled her name, before we started doing it on purpose! ;) So when Momma 56 started in on the CC forum with saying that she liked to "correct bad English language", Charlie and I let her have it. I don't think she ever read our comments, but we amused each other at least. I later apologized, but I suspect she never read that either. But if you go back to older posts on that thread, you will find many humorous comments and see the evolution of this strange little chat group on a suggestion thread! ;)
SHELL, Just saw your Speedo comment! Okay, I'll put Australia back on my list! LOL!
SHELL, True, but you can always change your name and icon early on, and no one will know who you are. Or use DELBERT, like PN did! ;) I don't know whether Laura CW or any other first time syncers are trying besides Tony, but if I don't see ANYONE with a chat name, I'll probably ditch the game.
TONY, In answer to one of your questions, different people have different priorities in the syncs. Since I generally care more about chatting than winning (big surprise! LOL) I check to see if I synced with anyone before playing. This usually means you will find me near the bottom. I look for familiar names or _CHAT_ next to a name. If anyone is planning to go incognito this weekend, I'd appreciate it if you'd at least start out with CHAT and no name. Twice I've thought I missed syncing because I didn't recognize any names. But it is fun to keep people guessing! Then I usually post to this chat group, and then I play like mad to get in the top five. Others just play all out for lead scores and check later.
ALSO a hint on comparing scores. If you take screen shots at various intervals it's easier to compare your scores to others, and also to measure your own speed. It will be interesting to sync with CHARLIE, because I think we average out to about the same speed, even though I play in short fast sprints, while he calls himself a persistent plodder ... or something like that!
TONY and CHARLIE, Have no fear! I broke the tradition last weekend of maintaining the top spots for the "syncers" coming in 5th, with SHELL as the only other syncer. So we can take the pressure off. I do try to stay in the top 5, because it's easier to see name change comments.
SO FAR WE ONLY HAVE 2 SYNC TIMES:
Friday at 5:30 PM EST (Half hour after tournament begins)
Sat. morning at 7:05 Pacific, 9:05 Central, 10:05 Eastern.
Would anyone like to propose another Friday night time?
CHARLIE, You spelled sartorial right, highly impressed by your humourous usage of the word ... I just wanted to be sure I was remembering the definition correctly. Finding "rules of sartorial engagement" while looking for it was just an amusing bonus!
SHELL, I'm surprised you would admit to your countrymen being responsible for Speedos! Now I'm thinking of kicking Australia off of my "bucket list" for fear of seeing purple haired men in their 50's sporting purple Speedos and thinking they still look like they are 18! LOL!
P.S. CHARLIE, When I looked up sartorial I saw the "Sartorial Rules of Engagement" ...
Pretty sure Speedos break all of them!
My husband keeps wondering what I'm l laughing about ...
CHARLIE, You made me look up sartorial, because the phrase "sartorial splendor" didn't match with anyone I've seen in a Speedo on the California beaches! As you and MANCO insinuated, I haven't seen anyone who has anything that protrudes further than their stomachs! LOL! And SHELL, budgies got me going again!
MANCO and CHARLIE, I don't think Big Momma reads anything we write, but CHARLIE and I seem to manage to amuse each other and a few of ya'll! I thought it hilarious that she pretty much said that she was going to use the cheat sites instead of paying for hints, while still complaining about others cheating. Whoever came up with CC for that site got it right ... Cheaters, Complainers, and add another C for Big Momma ... Cheaters who complain about other's cheating! ;)
OKAY SHELL, Here's your lullaby!
Mareydoats and Doseydoats and little lambs eat ivy!
CHARLIE, 7:05 AM PST on Saturday morning which I think is 9:05 AM CST for you, and 10:05 AM EST.
CHARLIE, YES, 7:05 works for me!
Tony, you can't just use any old clock around the house.
One of my tablets is slow, but my phone and new tablet are accurate. Some here use time.is, but I just use my phone. Check your phone and your wife's tablet and see if they are both the same. If so, perhaps you can pry it out of her sticky little candy (crush) covered hands long enough to watch the sync countdown on it! ;)
CHARLIE, Best laugh all morning was your goal to be a speedo! A Speedo is a teeny tiny men's bikini! Still laughing! I call them Super Scorers, which is long, but perhaps we can come up with a new term? ;)
Tony, you are WAY to excited about this! Go to SLEEP! LOL
You probably already got this part, but set up your puzzle. BEFORE the tournament starts. I just always leave one known word unfinished in each puzzle. I don't play a lot during the week.
SHELL, Pick a time that works for you, and put it out there. I haven't seen Lyn Benson lately, but silverstar is also from the UK and closer to your time zone. Same goes for everyone, put out a time, and see if it works for anyone else.
CHERYL, First sync to be confirmed for this weekend is 5:30 PM EST, or a half hour after the tournament starts for the time zone challenged among us!
CHARLIE, We "guys" like you too!
Tony, Some people swipe all but the last letter and hold their finger on the next to last letter until the clock ticks to the last second and then swipe the last letter and let go. That hurts my arm, so I just leave a 3 letter word and swipe fast. The first method has the advantage of keeping your screen from blacking out to save the battery. I missed a tournament once because of that. Sounds like you are as excited as CHARLIE and MANCO were over their first syncs. I'll put in a good word for you at 530 on Friday! ;)
TONY, Unless I'm mistaken, you don't see the countdown time until you start the tournament. So if you set up your puzzle with only one known unfinished word remaining BEFORE the tournament begins, you still need an accurate clock to know when to complete it!
Tony, Thanks for your kind words! Now that I understand that eliminating time zone confusion was your reason for wanting to try to sync at the beginning of the tournament (which is the worst possible time to try to sync) maybe we can use your logic to work for a later time, like for your suggested time of 5:30 EST, adding that it's a half hour after the tournament begins No time zone math required.
OPAL, Does a half hour after the tournament begins work for you?
Just read the comments from DRAGON and MANCO about CHARLIE on the cheat site, and had to go check it out, even though I've been trying to avoid it. I felt guilty about the condescending post I had made to Momma56, and even posted a sort of apology. But either she never read either of them, or her memory loss and confusion are far worse than mine. I'm glad CHARLIE found her posts before I did!
THANKS CHARLIE! Your turn to be MY hero! I commend you on your restraint!
Don't worry MANCO, I'm not going to waste any more of my time on her. She seems either deranged or demented, and I doubt that anything anyone has to say is going to convince her that she isn't being cheated, and that by god somebody had better do something about it.
If she's not "Jackass" under a different name, they are definitely on the same medication. (Or off it!)
I've decided the adult Christian response to both of them is to pray for them, and stay away from that site, and be glad they haven't found this one! ;)
I don't know if you can see a cartoon in the link above, but it made me think of CHARLIE, and could explain my "geezer bait" experience at Trader Joe's! ;)
MANCO, Grendel from our Facebook Chat Group just posted a screenshot of your score, unchanged saying, "Tell OPAL I'm at 19 K! ;)
MZD, Like everything with the crown tournaments, inconsistency rules. I couldn't see SHELL's crown, and she couldn't see mine. Who knows?
KATZ, I'm at 5, 10 and 20 on my three tournaments.
I quit last night because of a headache ... same crown points for all three ... feel like the crown points are a consolation prize ... participation award! ;)
CHARLIE, Glad you had fun!
Grendel just posted a screenshot of the FabFive ...
MANCO posted in abbreviated form,
Tell OPAL I'm at 16K, with a score of about 14K ...
Funny guy that MANGY!!! ;)
Silverstar and others, we apparently only see our own crowns and no one elses.
CHERYL, GRENDEL is from our Facebook Chat Group. And yes, it was her first sync. You can comment on her posts there. Her first name is Mary there.
SHELL, changed my name to Go (my name). Change yours to thanks or got it when you see it and I'll add my last in case you guess wrong. You can reach me at my fullname, all smail letters, no spaces at gmail.
CHARLIE, STUCK ON SUNROOM? SERIOUSLY? LOL
SHELL, WOW! You were holding back for me! You and JEFF must be about the same speed. I could hold my own with each of you when I was running at my top sprint speed, but you two can sustain it, while I can't. The fastest I've played with so far have been Paddling Nana, OPAL, CHERYL and EC. Apparently MANCO, DRAGON, RUFFIAN, TONY and LCW are also super scorers. Sorry if I forgot anyone. It's fun to sprint with ya'll though!
SILVERSTAR, You and Shell should try to sync. You'd be closer in time zones than most of us.
PADDLING NANA, your post made me laugh! Loved that you have a sense of humor about not receiving any crowns, AND only getting 1000 points if you win! I can't stand the ads! I still have them on my phone, and will have to have them removed if I ever sync with anyone on it.
TONY, If you try to sync right when the tournament starts, even divine intervention isn't going to help you! That's the worst possible time. OPAL was going to try to start an earlier tournament for you east coasters. For some reason our all time high (6 Syncers) was Friday at 3:44 PM PST, 6:44 EST. Somewhere around there might be a good time to start, but I'll stay out of that one. MANCO didn't sync until he had the patience to wait for a later time. Have fun with the tournaments, and get out in the sunshine for a bit today!
MANGY, You made me LOL so loudly that hubby came to see what I was laughing about! ;)
SILVERSTAR, My sentiments exactly. I'm currently in fifth, and will stop in to chat with SHELL, but not up to going for even third this weekend.
Hi SHELL! Sorry I missed the time challenges! And if we ever try to sync again, you'll have to calculate the time zone to PST for me. I could do it before the stupid daylight savings time, when you were 12 hours off from EST. But now I don't know whether to subtract 2 or 4 hours from EST to get my time from yours. No worries, zoom ahead. I'm afraid my headache will come back if I play too much today. Happy with the 20 point crown today. Go for it!
EMERALD CITY, Glad to hear from you! I was starting to worry about you!
SAPPHIRE, Post the clues and number of letters. We queens have to stick together! PN sometimes plays under Canoe Queen, we have a Grammar Goddess, and my hubby picked up the habit of calling me Queen Bee from my Dad calling Mom that! There are a couple of other queen nicknames in the group that I can't think of just now.
LOL! The crowns have gone to my head! ;)
Maybe that's the reason for my killer headache last night ... my crown is too tight. I need a bigger one! ;) Thanks to anyone who prayed for me last night. It was gone when I woke up at 130 AM PST. ;)
Love all of the kind words, but no more slobbering during group hugs! Feels like being licked by a Saint Bernard! ;)
Seriously, thanks everyone. It has been a tough day, and I appreciate the kindness. SHELL, I don't think I'll end up in top two either unless my headache goes away. Aside from a few measly coins, there's no difference between 4th and 33rd place for crowns, so I'm not going to break my neck trying tonight. Maybe we can get another race in before the tournament ends.
CHARLIE, Glad your bacon is saved!
I think CHERYL is just busy this weekend.
TONY, Thanks so much for your kind words. Sometimes I annoy people by trying to help too much! Their code phrase for when I'm starting to annoy them is "Yes, Mother"! But the way the say it comes out "Yes, Smother!" ;) Enjoy it while it lasts! When my new Grandbaby is born, I'll have a place for all off this time and energy to go! Until she gets old enough to talk anyway! Fortunately, It's impossible to give a baby too much attention. Seriously, I appreciate your kind words!
Tony, that's what CHARLIE And MANCO thought ...
Kudos for "unsyncable" Molly Brown and I just got that one! ;)
Let me know next time you want to try, and we'll see if you are doing anything wrong before I bother the Almighty for divine assistance! ;) CHARLIE and MANCO weren't setting up their devices with only one known unfinished word BEFORE the tournament began. (2PM PST, 5PM EST). Also if you end up with free bees as a daily prize, they will mess you up, so let them do their thing and start a different puzzle before the tournament starts. And if you are already doing all that, and your countdown clock is accurate, let us know what time you want to sync, and I'll pray for you. I never used to pray about little things like that ... like it was too trivial, and I had to save up my "prayer points" for the big stuff. But scripture pretty much says, pray without ceasing, about everything, any time. And while God won't always change the big things, because of little thing's like my ex-husband's free will ... This prayer request isn't going to hurt anything! True story ... I kept praying for God to make my husband a new man, He answered that one with a completely new man, my husband of the last 30 years! ;)
AMY, I missed Syncitement ...
It definitely works!
CHARLIE, MANCO AND DRAGON are going to keep CHERYL busy for you.
TONY, OPAL is going to do an earlier sync attempt next week. Usually more competition then. Have you been trying to sync?
CHARLIE and MANCO finally did this week.
SAPPHIRE, think of Bleah as a crown opportunity! ;)
MANCO, Told you she was impressive! When you're done shovelling, keep her off of CHARLIE! And don't hurt your back!
CHARLIE, SO GLAD YOU FINALLY SYNCED!!!!!
And so cute you changed your name to sunroom!
I might just have to flirt with you myself! LOL!
Well, Foget about ditching my morning game.
There are a bunch of slowpokes in there, and I'm gonna grab that crown like Sandra Bullock in "Miss Congeniality"!
Really need to stop watching old movies and get out more!
Before hubby and I take off for a while, I have a funny flirting in the store story. Hubby and I were at Trader Joe's, and he was standing behind me while I leaned in to get some ham from the cooler. He likes to pick the leanest pieces, so I turned around to ask him if this one was Okay, and came face to face with an older guy! I panicked for a second, and then saw hubby standing about 15 feet away, and laughing. I said, "Oh! You're not hubby!" And walked over to hubby. He started calling me "Geezer Bait" after that! There have been a few other incidents like that with members of "the greatest generation". Apparently my old graying hair looks like platinum blond to them. Love being the "younger woman" at 68! ;)
CHERYL, You got CHARLIE? YAY!
CHARLIE, You're lucky she's already in a death match with the FAB 5 ... You might have a chance that way!
LCW and PN, Are you disguised? If not, and if EC and SAPPHIRE aren't Seahawk 12, I'm going back to bed!
Hope JEFF and Pn got CHARLIE, because I didn't see him.
EC, If you're Seahawk 12, say Hi, or I'm ditching this game to keep up with SHELL.
Thanks SHELL, Nope. I even used a rocket when I got stuck and desperate! Thanks for the race!
REDANTT and MAREZEYDOATS, I think cyan was the color of the assistant's sweater that Meryl Streep made fun of in "The Devil Wears. Prada ". MAREZEYDOATS, I had the same feeling when I came across ZYDECO in a puzzle. Just heard it again in an NCIS: New Orleans rerun episode last night in a song lyric too. Ummm ... I really watch too much TV, don't I? Lol!
OPAL AND SHELL, I can only see my own crown. SHELL, Do you have a crown that I can't see? Good catch OPAL. FAB FIVE, Can you see each other's crowns? OPAL Good idea to have an earlier time for the East coasters. I think 3:44 PM PST, 6:44 PM EST was our record Sync Six.
MAREZEYDOATS, They changed the way you make comments in the name box. Click on the icon on the bottom left.. of the brilliance points page. Then click on the pencil in the top right corner of th next page, then try to change your name and hit confirm. Hmm ... just did it on my phone to get the description right, and it didn't work on my android phone. It was working on my old tablet with SHELL a few minutes ago.
SHELL, Don't wait for me. I just remembered I've seen GMA in several tournaments before ... Pretty fast and very persistent. I'll be playing with the morning group when we sync, since it's CHARLIE'S first sync. GO GET THAT CROWN! It'll look great with your hair! ;)
CHARLIE, There is an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" where someone flirts with Raymond and his wife Debra tries to flirt with people in the grocery store for revenge that comes to mind! Also the moment in "City Slickers" when a pretty gitl is being friendly to him, and his response was "I'm married". Hubby and I were watching it together, and I said "Good answer, remember that line!" It's better that a neighbor think you're a jerk than to be one! I think your odds of survival are pretty good! ;) Hope to see you soon in the tournament! JEFF and PN and someone else are trying for 7:05 AM PST too!
Dragon and Manco, Haven't played Ruffian or Grendel yet, but Cheryl left me in the dust! She may surprise you two! Grendel, you ended up in an epic match for your first sync! Cheryl, post some screen shots in the Facebook Chat Group!
SHELL, I can take a screen shot of our scores and post it for OPAL in the Facebook Chat Group. Don't wait for me. I'm headed for bed. Early morning meeting with CHARLIE & PN & JEFF. I'll try to stay in the top 3 for the crowns. You can take over first, since you haven't got a crown yet. #2 might give you a run for your money though. S/he is not quite as fast as I am, and if I remember right we are pretty evenly matched ... But s/he is persistent! I'd rather sync in both groups than go for # 1 and ignore the other. And I'd come in #100 just to WATCH the epic battle between DRAGON and MANCO! ;) Maybe we can get a little more time to play at the same time if I have my usual insomnia tomorrow night! Have fun without me!
And how cool that DRAGON was in your first sync. The only thing that could make it better is if SHELL and I had made it the Sync Seven! ;)
OPAL, CHARLIE and PN and I are syncing Tomorrow. Put in a good word for us ... It'll be his first sync!
MANCO, YAY! And with 5! Possibly my silliest prayer request ever, but I did pray for you at 7:33 for you to sync!
I'm in with SHELL. YAY!
JEFF, don't update now! I want to sync with you and CHARLIE and PN and ? tomorrow! I'm getting crowns with the 960 android build.
MANCO, I hope you synced! Are you in with DRAGON? Or your other peeps? I'm in with SHELL. And possibly a cloaked PN.
MANCO, YES! Along with INKS, GRENDEL, SHELL AND ?
CHARLIE, If you don't want to wait until tomorrow, MANCO and SHELL and I along with other people I forget, are starting tonight at 7:35 PM PST, 9:35 PM CST (your time zone if I remember) Then you don't have to remember sunroom all night! ;)
LAURA, Condolences on your loss. We have two times scheduled this weekend.
7:35 PM PST, 10:35 PM EST tonight. And Saturday morning 7:05 AM PST, 10:05 AM EST.
MezChick, We're mostly old and slow, so no worries!
REDANTT, Happy to hear your pain is lessened!
SAPPHIRE, Adding your specifics to my prayers!
I'm sure Wordscapes never intended this suggestion thread to turn into a group therapy/intercessory prayer chain! If they ever end the thread, you can find us on the Wordscapes group chat on Facebook!
MEZCHICK, Forgot the most important thing about syncing. You MUST finish all but one known word in a puzzle BEFORE the tournament begins today at 2 PM PST, 5PM EST if you want to try to sync. There are many thousands of tournaments broken up into groups of 100 people each, based on the time you start playing. Several people use timeis.com ? I just use the time on my cell phone. When the clock hits the sync time, you finish your last word and enter the tournament. You may or may not sync with anyone, but tournaments are fun anyway. It ends Sunday evening. I think at 10 or 11PM EST, and then you'll receive rewards based on your placement, which I won't explain here.
SIGH, Part 3 of syncing explanation.
CHARLIE, We're still on for tomorrow morning at 7:05 AM my time, 9:05 AM yours, if you are in Central! I'm determined you and MANCO are both going to "synceed" this weekend.
Sorry, Can't seem to edit that ...
What we call "syncing" developed from trying to see if we could end up in the same tournament. Our record number of people in the same tournament was 6. We comment encouragement or breaks, Zzz, etc. by changing our names, which gives us 15 characters to make a comment. This will make more sense once you are actually in the tournament. If you would like to try to sync, our current times are 7:35 PM PST, 10:35 PM EST tonight and 7:05 AM PST, 10:05 EST Saturday
MezChick, The same person who started this chat thread started a private word chat group on Facebook. If you are already on Facebook search groups for Wordscpes Chat Group. There is one giant group with lots of people and one smaller on with about 20 people so far. It is an easier format to follow, and you can Messenger people private messages, etc. Many are from this group, some followed PN from the larger Wordscapes group that doesn't seem to be monitored. It is more directed to the game and our attempts to sync with each other than this thread, which is a public suggestion thread where people have become friends in some marvelous, dare I say miraculous way, without ever meeting each other, and started by answering questions for people because People fun rarely seems to. When we say syncing "
WOW! JUST WOW! It's 4 AM and I just finished reading all of the recent posts. Instead of my usual verbose response, I'm going to just go back and read them all again, and as I do lift each one of us in prayer, to make sure that I don't miss or forget anyone. And then add a prayer for unspoken requests.
OPAL, SAPPHIRE, MAREZYDOATS, CHERYL, SHELL, KATZ ... I know I'm forgetting someone!
Thank you all for your kind words, wishes, thoughts and prayers!
MANCO, Only the people who are new have the piggy bank. I don't have it on my first download but do have it on the second two. It's just another annoying popup to try to get you to buy coins.
P.S. AMY, My words were first to start playing hide and seek with me, but now I can't do math in my head any more either. Hence the struggle with time zones!
Okay Tony, Did you just do that to make me feel better? They started putting the time in PST for me because I kept getting confused after the daylight savings time change in October. Before that EST made more sense to me because it was 12 hours different from SHELL in Australia.
AMY, I agree that our words matter, and though it was not my intent, it does trivialize or diminish the impact of the word. You might be interested in a movie coming out called "The Good Nazi". In a story similar to Schindler's List, a Danish man in China used his Nazi status and connections to protect hundreds or thousands of Chinese people from the Japanese during the "rape of Nanking. The word NAZI was originally just an acronym for National Socialist Party, which was the party that put Hitler in power. But it, and the swastika became symbols of the horrors committed under Hitler's rule. The SS were the worst of the lot. Sorry, I digress. But I'll stick with Grammar Police as SHELL suggested. There was mention of you leaving. If you posted to that effect, I missed it, but I echo the sentiment of STAY!
Pamela, BRILLIANCE is just your score. Probably influenced by your speed or how many bonus words you complete. No one seems to know.
Ok. The only sync times I know of so far are MANCO and SHELL AT 7:35 PM PST on Friday and 7:05 AM PST on Saturday with CHARLIE. Any other requests?
First things first ...
SAPPHIRE, YES THE BEES WILL MESS YOU UP!!!!!
BUT IT'S NOT TOO LATE.
Finish that game and set up another before the tournament starts tomorrow!
MezChick, rockets are cool, you might want to save it for a tournament. They put five random letters in your puzzle.
The piggy bank is another popup gimmick to get you to buy coins. If you do buy coins, you get all of the coins that are saved in your piggy bank, which is supposed to be a bargain. Most of us are just annoyed by it, and ignore it. Tournaments start every Friday at 5 PM EST and end on Sunday at 10 or 11 PM EST. There is a countdown clock during tournaments that will let you know how much longer it lasts. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. This is a mostly friendly group of people who started answering each other's questions, because People Fun rarely does. Aside from the occasional trolls who pop in and then leave again when nobody wants to fight with them, great, funny and helpful people.
Thanks, MANCO, CHARLIE, TONY and DRAGON! You guys always have a kind or encouraging word, or just make me laugh so hard that I forget all of my cares and have fun.
CHARLIE 7:05 AM Saturday morning PST (I think that's 9:05 AM CST where you are?) is fine with me. It's not too early to set up your puzzles with only one known word unfinished. I just leave mine that way every time I play. One less thing to have to remember! ;)
MANCO, Good! We have a better chance then.
MANCO, Thanks! Sorry that post was so long! So have you and CHARLIE set up your puzzles yet? ;)
SHELL, I can try to sync with you at 7:35 PM PST Friday. It's late for the East Coast players, but fine for me. I have two more devices if anyone wants to propose other times.
Amy, unless I also missed a page or two, I'm the only one who used the term "grammar nazi" ... It's a thing ... has gif's and everything. But I won't use it anymore if it offends you. If you've ever seen the movie "Uncle Buck", the principal is the kind of person I think of when I use the term. I by no means wanted to dilute or make light of the horror of the holocaust caused by Hitler's Nazi Party, and it didn't occur to me that it would. Apologies!
As for being in the early stages of Alzheimers, I'm not sure. My brother has been calling me Valzheimer for a few years now. My family tends to joke about things that would make you cry if you didn't laugh at them first. I wasn't joking about it in my "grammar police" post. (Thanks, SHELL ... more appropriate!) I know that many people, myself included, started playing Wordscapes because of memory loss. I have finally made an appointment with a neurologist to find out if my memory loss and confusion are caused by Alzheimers or some other circumstance. For years there was nothing you could really do about it, you couldn't really diagnose it without dissecting your brain in an autopsy, and I didn't really want to "know". It started with losing words. I used to have a genius IQ and a "photographic memory". I don't anymore. I joke that I haven't lost all my marbles, but there's definitely a hole in the bag. I am usually functional, but stress, fatigue, and especially traveling throw me off, and I find myself easily confused, losing and misplacing things, struggling to find a word, and frequently using a four syllable word when I can't find a more common one. The advantage of an extensive vocabulary is that you have lots of synonyms to choose from. My great grandmother and my grandfather both had dementia, and two of his daughters were diagnosed with Alzheimers. Those were my aunts. My Mom is 93, and her memory is better than mine. Is Alzheimers a joking matter? Absolutely not. I watched it destroy my aunt's brain until she was stringing nonsense words words together. It terrifies me that that could be my future. So I joke about it, and laugh when my brother calls me Valzheimer. And I pray that there's another explanation for my memory losses. And hopefully my neurologist will have good news for me in a few weeks. And if he doesn't, I will cry, and pray, and then find a way to make a joke about it, and then find joy in the rest of the days that I have left to me.
Katz, that's okay ... no trolls or Grammar Nazis allowed here! ;)
SHELL, If it doesn't have a sun roof, just don't tell me! ;)
CHERYL, Thanks! I've had too many Grammar Nazis in my life to tolerate even one more! ;)
PAMELA and INKSPIRATION, If I remember right, People Fun responded to someone that the brilliance points are just your total score. We have speculated that speed and/or number of bonus words might increase your score. I was thinking I ought to compare my score from the beginning to the end of the tournament with my brilliance points for the same period, but I always forget!
INKSPIRATION, You weren't kidding about having a tough year! More prayers for your nephew!
Inkspiration, I'll be sending you a message in the Facebook private chat group, but prayers are already coming your way!
CHARLIE, Happy to be your hero! I won't let the Grammar Nazis get you! ;)
And that makes it more impressive that you set a goal and made it, even though it wasn't easy! (Just don't do it again when your lovely wife is home!) My high is around 6000, because I don't have the stamina to put in long hours. I'm a sprinter, and you're a Marathon Man like my hubby. If we ever do end up syncing, we all know who won the race between the tortoise and the hare! ;) Happy to give you a chuckle! Laughter really may be the best medicine. I didn't have any pain for several hours after hubby and I laughed ourselves silly this morning!
DRAGON, Funny of you to misspell the word misspell! ;)
You did do that to be funny, right? RIGHT! ;)
It's actually in the top 100 of the words that are most frequently misspelled!
Tony, I'd better stay out of the swamp! Apparently, it's contagious! SAPPHIRE, I can't tell you which leg rest is good, because I still haven't received the one I ordered from Lujoso. I ordered it before Christmas; so either it is on a slow boat from China, or it has been stolen and they won't answer my texts about delivery; so don't order theirs! I have a call in to the MRI place to see what brand they had. Instantly took the pressure off of my lower back!
Thanks, DRAGON AND MZD,
I hope she is really the Grammar Nazi that I think she has been all of her life, and not some poor confused old lady! Hubby tried to make me feel guilty ... but neither of us could stop laughing long enough. As anyone who has been on this thread very long knows, I'm usually sweet. (TONY, will you ever speak to me again?) But something about her post just screamed, "Time for a Grammar Nazi Smackdown!" "Granny, get your guns!" and as my 8 year old Granddaughter says, as she's pretending to walk slowly with a cane and then brandishing it as she says in her best crackling imitation of Granny Clampett, "We gonna have ourselves a Granny Fight!".
(Please don't correct her grammar!) ;)
By the way, CHARLIE, I loved your description of cheaters desperate enough to copy from the answer sites as unpaid "defacto data entry clerks"!
Ahhhhhh ... CHARLIE! CHARLIE! CHARLIE!
You've been a bad influence on me!
I just posted the rudest post of my life on the cheat thread.
I'll delete it if you think I should, but I thought it might give you a laugh first!
Hi SHELL! Welcome "home"! Glad all is well with you! Now I'm picturing you in your stretch limo with the top half of your body out the sunroof, and your long purple Disney princess hair streaming behind you! ;)
OPAL, I had to go back 13 pages to find SHELL, but it was only January 11th, and she said she wasn't in the fire zone.
OPAL, Yes, 3 x In Bloom. I prefer not to sync in it since the crown tournaments started. I'm trying to win one for 50 crown points and get at least 20 points in the other two.
OPAL, It seems to me that the daily prizes might be 24 hours after your last accepted one. On all 6 games including In Bloom, they seem to come at different times of the day.
TONY, I agree with you, but they are obviously still working out the kinks.
OPAL, The only time I have seen 50 cent hints is when I receive an hour of half price hints as a daily prize.
TONY and DRAGON, I'm wondering if his differences have more to do with when he started playing ...2017 ... rather than his device. I started playing in 2019, and noticed the deficiencies of the dictionary immediately. Many new players complain about the myriad number of perfectly normal words that are not accepted. I probably would have quit playing long ago for that reason alone if I hadn't meandered into this group of caring and funny people ... speaking of funny, TONY had a good one with "nirvana of syncess"! It can be a lot of fun, but nirvana it ain't! ;)
If we each donate 29 cents! Thanks for the laugh, Dragon!
DRAGON, You do seem to have a lot of advantages! I'd love to have your dictionary! But if we make too much noise, they'll just take it from you, and not give it to us. You must have been playing before they made the changes to the dictionary. I have the piggy bank on two of my devices. It doubles the amount of coins you can buy for the same price, which would be an advantage for those who actually buy coins, but is just one more popup trap for the rest of us to avoid accidentally purchasing.
SAPPHIRE, No, it's scheduled for the first Friday in February, so I won't be syncing that week. I definitely have you on my prayer list! I ordered hubby and I leg rest pillows. They used one when I had my MRI and I loved it. Took all the pressure off of my lower back. I'll let you know how mine work out if I ever get them ... I think they must be coming by slow boat from China.
THANKS, TONY! I agree. A little oasis of kindness in a desert of of divisiveness.
CHARLIE, You're not getting rid of me that easily! ;)
SHELL, Where the heck are you?
REDANTT, Yes, Multiple devices. I paid to have the ads removed from two of them. If I ever "sync" with anyone on the third, I'll pay to have them removed on it too. And no, there is no strategic advantage to syncing ... unless you count that when you sync with one of the super scorers like PN, OPAL, MANCO, DRAGON, EMERALD CITY, JEFF, SAPPHIRE, KATZ, SHELL, CHERYL, TONY, etc. (SORRY! I know I'm forgetting a bunch) most people just give up! Also you have a higher level of competition, and it's fun to change names during the games for a mini chat. Usually not much more than encouragement, or letting someone know you are taking a long break (Zzzzzz) or a joke. A couple of people have synced under a different name, or "cloaked" to have you guess who they are by comments. PN also started a private chat group on Facebook when we were getting several trolls here. (Apparently if you ignore them, they go away!) It's nice to be able to comment directly on each other's posts, share screen shots of the games, see each other's profile pics, etc. If you don't want to share your photo, we'd love to see your cat, dog, horse, etc. ;)
SAPPHIRE, One of the comment in my disappearing post last night was that I would be praying for you. Both hubby and I have dealt with debilitating sciatica. He has been walking crooked for months now, and finally got an MRI and a treatment plan. He was crawling upstairs to bed for about a month. Thanks, KATZ, for the reminder!
Thanks, Silver Star! My cardiologist thinks my atrial fibrillation is triggered by my PVC's SVT's. (Sounds like plastic pipes and a venereal disease!) He thinks once he zaps the troublemakers in my ventricular chambers that the afib will go away. I may play a bit that weekend to earn crown points, but I'm not going to try to sync with anyone. I trie to post nice things about y'all last night, but couldn't find them this morning and can't remember them all now ... Valzheimers strikes again!
CHARLIE, We're not all leaving, the Facebook Chat Group is in addition to this thread. It offers features that we were wishing this site had, and it has the privacy and protection from trolls that this site doesn't have. You don't have to miss us until the next time you're with the lovely wife and Grands!
SUZI, Mine too! I didn't get credit for last week's win, but at least my crown meter moved to 50 from this week's win!
REDANTT, You scored 2000 more than my win!
AMY, I know what you mean. I just tried to stay in the top 20 with my other two tournaments.
Thanks for all of the well wishes for my "zap and map"!
DRAGON and MANCO, as usual you made me chuckle! Now I'm picturing a giant touch screen over my bed in the recovery room! ;)
TURNER, If you mean why hasn't your crown moved on the "gridiron" line as our football fans call it, we don't know either. We're hoping we'll see changes after the tournament ends. We have had responses from People Fun that say they are having difficulties with rolling out the crown rewards, but no one seems to know much about it right now.
As some of you are joining our private Wordscapes Chat on Facebook, please try to remember that while we share our real identities in that private chat group, we'd like to remain Anonymous on this public forum.
OPAL, Can't wait to get my grubby little hands on that baby!
AMY, Thanks for helping CHARLIE. Maybe he and MANCO can finally sync next time!
TONY, Let us know how the crowns work for your two wins!
SAPPHIRE, Praying for you!
CHARLIE, Even divine intervention can't help you and MANCO if you don't set up your puzzle with one word remaining BEFORE the tournament begins! ;) At least now you know why it wasn't working for you, and you'll have a good chance next weekend. If MANCO can be patient and wait for a later start! ;)
We are on varying levels. I just passed 10000. Others are much higher. After the game reached level 6000, it used to end, and people would lose their points when they had to start all over again. Now, you are considered on Master Level after 6000 and keep going indefinitely. Lots of repeated word puzzles though!
Inkspiration, if you already have a Facebook account, you just search the groups for Wordscapes Chat. There are other similar groups that are much larger. Ours has less than 20 members right now. I'll post another link here in case you can't find it.
Howdy! I share a birthday with my Dad. I was due on Jul 29th, but hung in there until August 10th to be born on my Dad's birthday. I've been accused of being deliberately late to make a dramatic entrance ever since! My Grandbaby is due to arrive on his/her Dad's birthday on July 29th ... but I'm wondering if s/he will hold out for mine! ;)
Manco, EC is definitely an enthusiastic writer! But don't give away your compliment! You and Dragon can both make me see a word picture that makes me laugh. And Dragon, my "map and zap" is so much less intimidating than "cardiac ablation procedure". I have it scheduled for the first Friday in February,; so I won't be syncing that weekend. I'm playing today while I watch football. The KC/Houston has been amazing so far. Seahawks and Packers are starting soon.
Silver star, have you clicked on the icon at the bottom left of your screen to see the four seasons, that look similar to the four boxes of the daily puzzle cumulative. I assume that the crown points will have a cumulative effect like the daily puzzles do.
Tony, I'm not sure what you mean. It's quite normal for tournaments to begin with all low numbers. Some people are just accidentally entered when they complete a puzzle after the tournament begins. And when we are trying to sync, everyone enters with only one point for that final word.
PN and JEFF, So glad you synced! Yes, I think there is a Delbert who follows the chat and tries to sync with us. The first tournament there were two Delberts. I think he tried two devices for a better chance and synced with me and himself, because one of them hasn't moved since. And there was a Delbert in my second attempt too.
CHARLIE, You, MANCO, and LCW haven't synced yet. But you can still chat here. I tried 3 times this weekend, and failed every time. I really think it has something to do with Internet connection speed. The syncess six was probably our peak moment, never to be repeated!
No CHARLIE or PN ... Hope they synced with each other. There is a LOLO though. Maybe she was trying to sync with you CHALIE!
TONY, Your tournament is more competitive than mine. I'm in the lead with only 1700 points, but I'm glad about that, because if I sync with CHARLIE and PN, I won't have any time for this one. Group Hug! ;)
CHARLIE, I hope you already set your puzzle up with only one word to complete before the tournament began, or it will take more than divine intervention to sync this morning! PN and I are both going to try to sync with you at 7:05. I think 9:05 your time.
PN, Hope to see you and CHARLIE tomorrow. At least you should be able to sink with your hubby! ;)
OPAL, just saw it, Thanks!
Tony, Just saw this definition, and thought of you ...
Loaning someone your strength, instead of reminding them of their weakness.
If one of you is cloaked in the 7:05 PM PST as Delbert, you'd better fess up, or I'm ditching it! The ads are driving me crazy. If I ever sync with someone on my phone, I'll pay to get rid of them.
OPAL, If you get a breather, take a screenshot of the crowns and post it in the other chat group so that PN can see it. She still doesn't have any.
Dragon, you're right. Usually the later in the tournament, the easier to sync.
YAY, DRAGON and OPAL!
LCW, NO, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! MANCO and CHARLIE haven't yet, but I have hope for CHARLIE tomorrow morning at 7:05 AM PST. MANCO gets all excited and can't wait for a later time when he has a better chance.
It's too hard to sync this early in the tournament! Even with divine intervention! Hopefully I'll sync tonight Or tomorrow!
Hope someone (I'm talking to YOU, MANCO!) synced!
The only name I recognize is DELBERT! ;)
BBop, are you sure you're in the right Wordscapes group. If there are more than 20 people in it, search again!
MANCO, You have a way with words! Are you an author? Or a comedian?
CHARLIE, I'm praying for you and MANCO to sync with someone this weekend. If divine intervention doesn't help, I don't know what will!
BBop Several of us are on there, but are using our real names. I haven't been on since early this morning, but I didn't see a Bbop. Identify yourself as Bbop on the group site, and we'll find you!
DRAGON, No worries about a slow start. If I sync, look for me in the 90's, because I'll be out of wifi range driving over a mountain to get home from Dr. appointment.
CHERYL, I'm also trying for the 705 AM and PM PST
EC ... Your car was BETTER than his? ;) Thanks for appreciating my story! ;) And yes, I'm trying for three syncs with my umpteen devices! If I sync on all three I'm in trouble! I only have two hands, after all! ;)
OPAL... If I sync with you 44 minutes after the tournament starts, I'm playing like mad to get a head start before you zoom past me in your new Caddy! ;)
DRAGON, Hope to see you at the 44 minutes in sync too!
I've forgotten who else is trying for when, but I haven't forgotten YOU, CHARLIE!
Thanks Tony! If you choose not to do the Facebook group, like Shell has, no worries. Most of us will still be hanging around here too. Just looking for a platform that is easier to follow. This suggestion site was obviously not designed for the kind of chat we are using it for, and is hard to follow. I feel badly that I've missed a lot of posts on here. I recently discovered that by not refreshing the page (or going out of it and coming back in) I've made some unfortunate jokes that appear right after someone has shared something sad. Apologies to anyone that I accidentally offended.
OKAY, OPAL, I scrolled back thru MANCO's posts,, and he did say 4:44 CST, so that makes it 2:44 for me in California, and 5:44 EST ... Or an easier way is 44 minutes after the tournament begins, wherever you are! ;)
PN and I thought it was 4:44 PST
MANCO, It was your suggestion ... which time zone?
Okay MANCO, 4:44 PM Friday ... but DRAGON and I want to know if that's PST, CST, EST or ? If it's PST, the CST should be 6:44, and EST 7:44 ... I think! My brother doesn't call me "Valzheimer" for nothing. I have 3 Wordscapes tournaments to try to sync, so I'm going with the
4:44 PM ??? Friday for MANCO,
7:05 PM PST Friday night with CHERYL, and
7:05 AM PST Saturday morning with CHARLIE.
CHARLIE is syncing with me Saturday. He was with his wife and Grands, but he's back now.
EC, if I remember right 4:44 was MANCO, and I don't think anyone took him up on it. But I could be wrong.
Are the changes to the Chevelle the REASON for the divorce? Just kidding. I had a "training wheels" husband the first time around. Hubby has been around for for 30 years now. I guess I'll keep him! Plus he has the Chevelle! ;)
Okay, I'm going to try to sync with:
CHERYL at 7:05 PM PST on Friday night, and
CHARLIE at 7:05 AM PST on Saturday.
MANCO, if Friday night is better for you than Saturday morning, you can join me then instead.
Others who want to try to sync can join at either of those times, or pick a time and ask if anyone wants to join you then.
MANCO, Thanks for the word picture! Maybe we'll take OPAL's new Caddy instead! It's probably got a smoother ride! SHELL will have to stick her purple head out the window though ... sorry, it's not a convertible! I do have a funny Chevelle story though. Even 30 years ago, guys would follow the car to get a better look, and come up to us in a parking lot to ask about it. When I was driving to the grocery store one day, looking very cute, blonde and happy, I noticed someone driving next to me and checking out the car. He followed me into the grocery parking lot and parked next to me on the passenger side of my car. i got out of the driver's side of the car just as he was getting out of his car, and we began a friendly conversation over the roof about the Chevelle. I didn't realize he was checking out more than the car until I walked my very pregnant self around the back of the car and his horrified expression said, "OMG! I've been flirting with an extremely pregnant woman!" It was priceless!
MANCO, See you and CHARLIE and ????? anyone who wants to join us at 7:05 AM PST on Saturday.
Tony, Taking the high road is just good common sense and life experience!
MANCO, I thought you and CHARLIE and I were all on for Saturday at 7:05 AM PST, along with OPAL, or maybe CHERYL. I remember joking that if we were all going for the same tournament that I'd only have to bother God once for a little divine intervention for you and CHARLIE to finally sync. Or maybe you didn't see it. If that's not good for you, I still have another device to sync.
TONY, Amazing what a little kindness and humor can do to spice up your life! I appreciate that you have been unfailingly kind to others here, even when the trolls were harassing you. Glad you found us!
Tony, you're welcome. Sorry about your identity theft. I just read a warning that some of the cute quizzes on Facebook are scams to get information about people. I just stay away from all that stuff.
CHERYL, Did you mean 7:05 PM EST or PST on Friday?
I ask because you mentioned falling asleep ...
Tony, Since PN is probably sleeping, I'll give you a clue.
I started reading and commenting on a group of posts on the suggestion idea titled:
Wordscapes tournament cheating!
Posted by Anonymous in September 2018.
PN started this "CHAT", at least partly to get away from the negativity of that thread, as new players would be in disbelief of some of the scores people were posting, and assume there must be cheating happening. You can go back and read some of the posts from names in this group next time you have insomnia. ;) But this is not really intended to be a chat forum, and I think PN has found a haven for us that addresses some of the issues we have been discussing over the past few days. By having a private chat room, we can escape the trolls, and the comments are in threads that are easier to follow. For those who are already on Facebook, you have the familiarity of being able to choose to follow or ignore a particular thread, without "burying the lead" of the Wordscapes related comments. You can also use the emojis (Like , Haha, Wow, etc.) or comments to reply directly to someone else's comment. Much easier to follow. For those who don't like Facebook, or want to remain anonymous, you can set up a Facebook account with your wordscapes name and a profile pic of your cat! ;) You don't have to be anyone's Facebook friend to join the private Wordscapes Chat, but you do need to set up a Facebook account if you don't already have one. So, come on over and check it out! It has been fun "uncloaking" for those who have shared their real names and profile pics. Everyone looks so much younger than I pictured them!
OPAL, BOTH is better! ;)
Tony, I didn't see a crown column on any of my three devices. Amy, thanks for confirming that we were right about all of the bugs causing problems. They need to hire OPAL or DRAGON to fix their software!
MANCO, TOO FUNNY! So no one is syncing on Friday night yet?
If you and CHARLIE are both trying for Saturday at 7:05 AM PST, I can pray for you both at the same time! Don't want to have to bother God twice with this! ;) I have two android tablets and an android Galaxy 9e Samsung phone. So three chances for Wordscapes sync, and two for In Bloom sync. I'm saving my third In Bloom for my grand at a level too low for tournament play. I ditch the games where I fail to sync.
MANCO, ME TOO! I want to be an observer, and you need someone who doesn't mind being last! ;)
SAPPHIRE, I'm not sure what "usual" is anymore. We had temporarily agreed on 7:05 Friday night and Saturday morning, PST, and added 12:05 Saturday afternoon PST.
But then someone suggested 3:11 PM PST Friday, and we had our best "syncess six" ever. I've agreed to 705 AM PST with CHARLIE, and have two more times available if anyone wants to try for Friday night. I also have 2 Wordscapes In Bloom to play with if I don't sync with Wordscapes.
If anyone uses the link, please let me know if it works! I'm not very tech savvy, and I'll especially miss SAPPHIRE, as she always explains things so well. OPAL and CHERYL have found us through searching Facebook groups.
SAPPHIRE, I think you can make a Facebook page with a fake name like SAPPHIRE SOMETHING. My daughter did it somehow. But you probably know more about that than I do. You don't have to be anyone's "friend" to join the group.
This link to Paddling Nana's Facebook site may or may not work! I'm excited about the new format. I think it will fix most of the issues we've been talking about over the past few days! Come on over!
CHARLIE and TONY,
Charlie, if you want to sync Saturday morning at 10:05 AM Eastern 7:05 AM Pacific, I'll try to sync with you then. I also want to try to sync sometime Friday night. Any suggestions for time?
Tony, It would be great if there were, but I'm not aware of any. This format really wasn't designed for the kind of chat we do on it.
Note to MANCO, BBOP, and anyone else wanting to SYNC this weekend. One of the most important things to remember is to set up a puzzle with only one known word uncompleted. I have gotten into the habit of doing this every time I stop playing, so I never have to remember to set it up. But if that's tedious for you, you might want to set it up that way Thursday or at least before the tournaments start at 5 PM EST on Friday night. Then, at a preselected time, complete the last word, entering you into a tournament. I usually change my name to CHAT_ WS, and appreciate when others also add CHAT_ to their names, so that I can quickly tell if I've synced with anyone. I ditch any games where I don't sync, and try again later on another device. Some people use timeis.com, but I just use the time on my phone. Some people have had difficulty syncing no matter what they do, probably because their internet connections are either faster or slower than normal. BBOP, Syncing with your hubby is the most likely to succeed, because you have the benefit of the same internet connections, and not relying on a clock to enter at exactly the same time.
CHARLIE and MANCO, I'm praying for you to sync this weekend. Seriously! I know God has more important things to do with His time, but you two seem to need a little divine intervention! ;)
I've never tried words with friends. I'll have to check it out!
DRAGON, I vote that you and OPAL start a new word game with an interactive chat feature, and the ability to invite friends to play in tournaments! ;)
OPAL, I'm so happy for you and your hubby!
I missed a whole page of comments somehow, but after reading everyone's comments about your good news, I had to come back and find it!
CHARLIE, No worries about the old post. At least it was on the cheating site where everybody is grumpy! ;) Good to see you back. Did you play at all last weekend, and see the crowns everyone is talking about?
MAREZYDOATS, Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm dreading the physical therapy. But I've heard that the surgery is useless without it. As for the trolls, if you ignore them, they go away.
MANCO, You're so cute! Hubby has a 68 Chevelle. He's the original owner and had it completely stripped down and put a new giant engine in it. I always get the hp wrong! But he'd trade it in for a 57 Chevy in a heartbeat! ;)
GAIL, You can see what build you are on settings in the game. It looks like a gear. If your I phone is 958, you probably get your updates automatically. Several other people mentioned build 958 and I phone. I have 3 Android devices, and they are all on 960.
DRAGON, "LOVE THE MAP AND ZAP"! My cardiologist told me to think of him as my electrician!
OPAL, Praying for good results for your hubby, and appreciate yours for me. I've been putting this stuff off for months. Now my coming Grandbaby has motivated me to get in shape again.
Thanks! Dragon, Maybe your software will cure me!!
SHELL and MARIA, Joinng you in prayers for Australia.
REDANTT, Are you MAMCO in disguise? Haven't heard from him lately, and then you pop up! Both funny guys! Swiping crowns indeed! Although I only had my gold jeweled crown for winning the tournament for a few minutes before it disappeared! ;)
CHERYL, Thanks for your kind words.
P.S. AMY, I was going to mention wearing out the path in between the separate bedrooms. I forgot that I already had.
And thanks for your kind wishes. My daughter told me I had to get my shoulder fixed; so I could hold my Grandbaby in 7 months without dropping her. And get the ablation procedure for my heart; so I don't pass out while I'm holding her. Can you tell I'm hoping for a girl? ;) I'm just glad that most of my issues are fixable.
AMY! YOU'RE A FREAKIN' GENIOUS!!!!!
How totally cool!
My guess is that the scoring will be similar to the daily puzzles, except that you will have three months to complete each season instead of one month to complete the four pictures, and collect increasingly higher rewards for each season, starting with 500 the first season. At least I hope it increases with each season, as 500 points a quarter is not a lot. Do you want to post this on the other thread about crowns? I haven't seen anything about it over there.
Tony G. I agree. Jeff and OPAL and others from this forum were the most helpful over there. It's obvious that the new crown incentive isn't rolling out smoothly. It's all MANCO's fault for suggesting a new incentive for higher scoring wins, instead of the same number of coins for a 2000 or 20000 scoring win! ;) He knows I'm just kidding! What time zone are you in Tony? I won't answer again tonight. Turning off my phone and going to bed. I'm in Pacific. Hubby snores, and I have insomnia, so we sleep in separate bedrooms. Good night all!
Dragon, I want a REAL tiara! They aren't as heavy as crowns.
Ruffian, thanks for the info on crowns, I'll check it out! I did see a gold jeweled crown right after I won one of my tournaments, but it disappeared, and my crown level was the same silver "on the ten yard line" in the season's chart as it was for the ones I ditched because I didn't sync in them and placed 13th and 25th. Tony, thanks for the psychic group hug. It's the only kind I can get until I have my rotator cuff surgery, which has to wait for my heart ablation procedure and my nerve study for the pain in my feet! I should get a "triple crown" ... or a "hat trick" for three in a row. Had to get horse racing and hockey in there, since football has been getting top billing. We sure are an unhealthy group! I have a theory that many of us are using Wordscapes and this forum for distraction from chronic pain.
JEFF, Interesting. I use google play and Androids, both tablets and my phone are Samsung (Galaxy 9e phone). My older tablet still had a 2000 first prize, while the Tab 9 and phone had 1000 first prize.
JEFF, How odd! Did you wind up with a crown too?
You can click on the little "person" on the bottom left of your screen to see where you crown is lit up on the scale. Is anyone's more than 10000 crown lit up?
OPAL, WHAT # IS YOUR CROWN? I got a #10 crown in all 3 of my games, even though I finished 1st in one and 13th and 25th in the two I ditched.
Inkspiration, when we sync by finishing the last word in a puzzle, we get one point. Some people probably randomly end up finishing their puzzle after entering the last few words after the tournament starts.
PN, Back from lunch, but a newcomer is sneaking up on me in my crown tournament. Got your first name. Will look for a friend request on Facebook or messenger message. You can try my same name on yahoo.com since gmail doesn't seem to be working. Also no spaces or caps. Back to defending my crown! ;)
PN, nothing @gmail.com
I even checked Spam.
Sorry I haven't been fun to sync with this weekend. Unlike Shell, I never had purple hair, even when I was 18 for real!
Just about to go out to lunch with hubby. Have had distractions all morning, and I know we're both more invested in finding out what happens when you win first in crown tournament. Catch you after lunch!
EC, Now we know the 12th man in Seahawks is really a woman! Love the Seahawk Sisters!
ANONYMOUS DUDE ...
PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW TO MEET SOMEONE AT COMPLAINTS?
DRAGON, Thanks for the update. I'm glad they are planning to upgrade the dictionary words. It really is frustrating to have such a limited choice of words. Makes it even more repetitive and less fun.
PADDLING NANA, Put your real first name on the name change chat I've racked up friend requests like you rack up points!
PN, You could try messenger, or maybe I forgot to tell you all small letters in my name (no caps) before gmail.com. Don't know why Facebook wouldn't work. Did you do a friend request? I'd better check! I've got a 700 point lead in a seemingly slow tournament. I've ditched my other In Bloom and other Wordscapes games. If my "crown" games says slow, I might try to pull up to second in our sync. I'll put my name in there again in case I misspelled it. (CHARLIE would get a kick out of that! ;)
SHELL, That's how I picture you now! Google Mal doll from Disney Descendants! ;)
Jeana Hurst, Sorry, That's never happened to me. My fix for anything electronic is to turn it all the way off and restart it. Then try going back into the app. If that doesn't work, try contacting people fun directly.
Anyone else have any ideas for Jeana?
Okay, we've been talking about syncing too much! I just had the word scenery, and was surprised it didn't recognize SYNCER as a word!
If anyone is having trouble changing their name in Wordscapes, see Emerald City's detailed instructions below. It also explains how to see the crown chart, which in my case has a big fat ZERO!
PADDLING NANA, I'm not going to try to catch you, but I'll be checking in on you to chat throughout the day.
SHELL, It's EC''s fault that I am now picturing you violently tossing long purple hair! Disney's movies "Descendants 1, 2, and 3" have a main character, Mal, with long purple hair. I just bought a Barbie type Mal doll for my Granddaughter. You officially look like her in my mind now! ;)
OPAL, If there is a monitor, it would be PN. Just think of me as your Wordscapes Anonymous sponsor! ;) I had forgotten Hallmark's crown rewards. We don't have a Hallmark store near us anymore.
SHELL, that's thoroughly confusing! The Case of the Disappearing Crowns! Do they have Perry Mason reruns in Australia?
EC, Thanks for the insights. I think they are experimenting with the crowns thing, and eventually we'll figure it all out, and our devices will mostly be alike. We all like puzzles, ergo mysteries, so it's fun to try to figure it all out, even if we're wrong! I hope you are right about the name change thing. That would take a lot of the fun out of syncing. I'm going to check out your suggestions. I did find the edit button, but hadn't seen the crown chart you mentioned yet.
DRAGON, You'd go invisible too if you had purple hair! ;)
Just Kidding, SHELL!
OPAL, You could put that in as a new suggestion. I think they've given up reading ours! Maybe we should wait til we see what happens in this weekend's tournament first. I still don't know what's happening with it.
PN is first in our in bloom tournament. I ditched it for a while to get to first in my Wordscapes tournament so I can try to see if I get a crown. I'm heading for bed, but may play more when my insomnia hits. She's also first in her Wordscapes tournament, but I can't keep up with both tournaments. I'll just pop in to chat with PN in our synced in bloom occasionally tomorrow.
DRAGON, We don't really know if it's bad to change names with the crowns or not. I'm guessing it's a possibility, since they made it more difficult to do.
Now I'm picturing you as the dragon in The Hobbit! ;)
If you are stuck in a list of tournament scores, either hit an x in top right corner, or arrow in top left corner
Just keep playing the way you were before the tournament started
SHELL, I also see a crown and 2000 coins ...
PN, Did you get my first and last name in the name change box? You can find me on Facebook with it, or use all small letters and gmail.com.
Taking a big break.
PN, I'm also going to concentrate on the game I have a chance of getting a crown in out of curiosity. I'll check in on the in bloom, but I can't maintain both. Did you get my first name? If so I'll change it to my last.
PN, I'm putting my real first name in the chat box, and later will put in my real last name; so you can reach me at either facebook or gmail.com if People Fun eliminates our ability to chat in the games. I have the feeling our frequent name changes are going to cause problems with the crowns.
PN, I took first, since it's probably my only chance, and I like to hit first once in each tournament! You are faster than I, and I am faster than Corky, so I'll let them take first while they can, and we can take over one and two later, unless you're feeling generous and want to let Corky win! ;)
PN, Just saw your name change ... will try it again, but it didn't work for me before. Need to keep playing for a while.be very time I take a breather, Cork passes me. Trying to keep our top scorers tradition. With a top two finish if I can.
CHERYL, It's okay, PN and I wouldn't have synced on In Bloom if we hadn't tried both, so it all worked out for the best. Falling behind in the game again. Better try to catch up now.
PN, someone found a way to name change on wordscapes, but I don't see a way to do it on In Bloom. For those who think In Bloom is too easy, look up ulama! I've managed to get to 4th, from 100th, but PN still has a 400 point lead.
Okay, I'll start playing in bloom ... I'm 100 with 1 point ... might take me a while! ;)
CHERYL and PN,
I'M down in the 90's in both tournaments with CHAT _WS.
Do you see me? Don't know what names you are using.
JEFF, Seems logical that your mid tournament update may have messed your game up.
PN, ARE WE STILL DOING WORDSCAPES, OR IN BLOOM FOR CHERYL? NEVERMIND, I'll do both, and see if I sync with either of you!
PADDLING NANA, I can sync with you at 12:05 PM PST Today if you want. I'd prefer Wordscapes over In Bloom because I want to figure out the crown thing. I hope to see you then!
Sorry I missed you! Going back to bed! ;)
SHELL, I was thinking you might be incognito. I see two people with crowns. One in third place, and one in 66th. Maybe from winning past tournaments?
Anyone still syncing at 7:05 AM PST?
I am, but I have a second device if we don't make it, or anyone wants to try later.
SAPPHIRE, THANKS for helping us technologically challenged people!
SHELL, Are you still awake?
PN, Are you still out there?
JEFF, Where are you?
SHELL, Never pictured you with purple hair! Your post reminded me of a Facebook meme ... Not wanting to hear "what a sweet little old lady" but "what's she up to now?" ;)
OPAL, The pesky piggyback doesn't require you to purchase coins. It is just another pop-up gimmick to try to get you to buy more coins. It gives you double the coins for the price. You can just X out of it like the other package offers. I find it annoying because it takes up precious seconds when I am in a race, and is yet another opportunity to accidentally purchase coins that I don't want.
YIKES! I have a "real life" for one day, and come back to 5 pages of new comments!
For those trying to sync, you need to complete a puzzle all except for the last word BEFORE the tournament begins on Friday at 2 PM Pacific time.
EC, glad to see you back! Manco, prayer isn't going to help unless you set up you puzzle BEFORE the tournament starts! Work with me here! LOL! I'm setting my alarm to try to sync with SHELL and maybe PN, and anyone else who wants to try at 7:05 AM PST Saturday morning. I'm curious about all of the changes!
Inspiration and others new to syncing. Click on my blue name above this link and read the instructions. I just posted them yesterday, and have posted so many times the regulars must be getting bored with it.
People asking about crowns ... not ignoring you ... We don't know either.
LYN BENSON, Read the posts for the last few days ... another UK player wants to sync.
KATZ, If I ever see a Jo Schmo, I'll know it's you! ;)
Weird bonus word ... KATZ DON'T LOOK!
PN, SHELL and I are trying for 7:05 AM. Join us if you can.
We're going to be low key. Wishing I could see my Granddaughter this weekend!
KATZ, THANKS! I just saw it pop up on my two higher level games, but not on my really low one; so there may be a level that you have to reach, but we are probably all past it already.
OPAL, After the last two weekends, you need a big break!
PN, We've gotta keep an eye on her for WAA! ;)
MZD, I think you were thinking of OPAL'S husband. As far as I remember PN'S is OK
EMERALD CITY, Where are you? I miss you!
CROWN RECEIVERS, What level are you on? I haven't recieved this.
AMY, If heat helps your condition, they make a heating pad that conforms to your neck and shoulders.
CHARLIE and MANCO, Praying that you both finally sync!
And praying that we all have better health and less pain this year.
For those new players who want to try to sync, pick a time, and see if anyone is able to sync with you then. Before the tournament starts at 2 PM Pacific Coast time, complete a puzzle except for the last word. Make sure you know the right answer to it. Then at the agreed upon sync time, complete the last word, entering the tournament. I usually change my name to put CHAT_ in front of it so people can quickly tell if we have synced. Then we use name changes to chat, with brief encouragement or saying "break" or "Zzz" when taking a long break, etc. I try to stay in the top 5 to make chatting easier. Shell and I are trying for 7:05 AM Saturday morning Pacific time. There are usually people trying to sync on Friday night as well.
Prayers for AMY, CHERYL and your husband! It seems a lot of the players in this group have severe health problems that limit our mobility.
Hi SHELL, I'll try for the 7:05 AM PST Saturday too then. I'm not looking to set any records, just have a little fun with the chats, so no worries about how much you can play.
Hi PN and all! I've been having a bit of a real life this week, and won't be able to start the tournament on Friday. Is anyone planning on starting on Saturday morning?
Can anyone help SHELL and others who are not able to edit or delete comments? I did a lot of experimenting, but have no idea why I can edit or delete my comments from my new tablet, but can't from my old tablet or new phone. I also have to enter my email address every time I comment on those two devices, but don't have to on my new tablet. The only other variable is that I'm connected on facebook with my new tablet, and my profile pic shows on my tournament name instead of an icon. But the picture doesn't show up in comments ... so ... "I haint got a clue!"
Hi SHELL, I access this site through a different route. I type "wordscapes.uservoice.com" in my google search bar. The first thing that pops up is: Customer Feedback for Peoplefun. Below this is a little light bulb and "I suggest you" ... and has a blue arrow to the right. I click on the arrow, and it takes me to a screen where the top suggestion is Game chat. Then if I'm on my tablet, I'm able to comment, edit or delete. For some reason if I access the site on my phone, I have to enter my email address every time I comment, and I'm not able to delete or comment. So maybe it doesn't matter how you enter, but depends on the type of device you use? I'm pretty technologically challenged; so maybe SAPPHIRE or one of the other more savvy syncers can tell you more. I'm sure there must be an easier way than what I do.
TONY, Your strategy seems sound to me. I personally can't compete for long stretches of time because it aggravates my shoulder injury. So I begin the tournaments later, sometimes on Saturday, to limit the amount of time I play, and to play with a slower group of competitors. The higher level players usually, but not always, start as soon as the tournament begins. If I'm synced with someone I try to stay in the top five so that the name changes are easy to spot.
A happy and blessed new year to all.
CHARLIE, You might want to delete your response to Diane on the cheat site ... She was probably replying to the original post about cheating.
BUFFY and MZD, You're welcome!
Weird bonus word ... UMM
Paddling Nana, I can relate! Too much togetherness is too much! One of the reasons I love this Chat group! ;)
Tony, That's a lovely way to put it. It does, in some way that makes no sense at all, feel like home!
PADDLING NANA, The limerick was at the end of a long post by Marezydoats. If you click on her name you can see all of her posts, and it's easier to find
CHERYL and DRAGON, Thanks for the great anagrams. I've used gore and goer before, and I think ergo, but was apparently brain dead when I posted that!
I think ROTI didn't work for me. Wish I knew why your dictionary is different from mine!
OPAL, I'm relieved to hear that you ditched the other game! I think the people who think In Bloom is easier are just in the earlier stages, and have forgotten that Wordscapes started out with the easy ones too.
BUFFY, I've found a trick for remembering my tricky words. They usually begin with a vowel. For example your "once" has the same letters as "cone" which is easier to see. So if you make a word association in your mind between the two it becomes automatic. Some that help me are
OCEAN/CANOE (These also have your nemesis ONCE, and ACNE, one of mine, among others)
You get the idea. I haven't come up with any for euro, ogre, or beau yet, sorry OPAL and SHELL! I also started looking for words that started with vowels whenever I was stuck. Hope that helps you!
SHELL, Love that you changed your name to Jackass when we were speculating about whether J was incognito! And the mushroom explanation!
EMERALD CITY must be too devastated by the heartbreaking finish for the Seahawks to comment tonight.
BUFFY, you don't have to be fast to sync, just have a sense of humor, which your posts have shown in abundance. I would recommend that you sync on one of the later times, and not the first one if you're looking for slower competition.
MAREZYDOATS, Welcome! Sorry that you thought our comments about J were meant for you. Accusing us all of
lying and cheating was not a good way for her to win friends!
OPAL, I'd be amazed by your scores if I hadn't seen you in action. I'm a little surprised you didn't ditch your In Bloom game ... PN and I may have to do an intervention and get you to our next. WordAholics Anonymous meeting! ;)
SAPPHIRE, Thanks for confirming our hunches! Enjoy the game! Envious that you got to see Diana before her events wer jammed!
SHELL! GOOD ON YOU! GREAT FUN!
JEFF, From your inspiration, I just caught up over five hundred points, was able to tie, could have passed with ease, but stayed, changing my name to Good Game! They're probably wondering what. Kind of nut I am! ;)
MANCO, Give it up! Try again next weekend. I'll pray for you to sync, if God isn't too busy with world peace! ;)
OPAL and CHERYL are probably still playing til the clock runs out!
EMERALD CITY, In case you missed it, I also called MYSELF a chatter who couldn't have held out more than a few minutes. We're kindred spirits!
As for Jackatz, Manco invited her from the cheating site to sync with us and learn to play nice. If I were her, I'd hide my ID too, after insulting all of us. Hoping it was SHELL, especially since she was playing in the middle of the night here, which is daytime down under.
OPAL, I usually read a couple of books a week. My favorite author is Diana Gabaldon and her Outlander series is amazing. It also has the first three seasons on Netflix right now. I think the fourth is available on STARZ, and the fifth is coming out in February on STARZ. Prior to that my favorite author was Tolkien, and his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Lately I've been reading mystery series from the 1700's to early 1900's. I have a subscription to Amazon Kindle books too.
DRAGON, Good guess! I never would have thought of me! ;)
But I am also a chatter, and would have given myself away by now. Going on the clue that s/he singled out JEFF, I'm going with SHELL, final answer! She's trying to set up some kind of intercontinental fling with him! (Just kidding!)
P.S. OPAL, I don't think that CHARLIE was planning to play this weekend because his wife is home with him for a short while. And EC couldn't hold out this long ... She's a chatter!
But Shell or Tony are both possibilities.
OPAL! So happy to hear about your hubby's scan! I know several of us have been praying for him, and it's the best news ever on this thread!
Weird word warning ... Katz beware! Corpus
JEFF, You've been hanging out with DRAGON too long! You're hilarious! I never knew! ;)
Maybe the Mystery player will reveal his or her self tomorrow!
OPAL, Thanks! I miss being in the tournament with you, but my shoulder is feeling much better for not playing this weekend! DRAGON, let us know who cloaked turns out to be! I'm having my Wordscapes fun vicariously this weekend!
KATZ, Yes, as a general rule, the later you start, the less competition. You get a lot of newbies who accidentally wander into a tournament. The really competitive usually start as soon as the tournament begins.
Does anyone know when the cutoff is on Sunday for entering a new tournament? I tried a little after 11 AM PST last time, but that was too late.
Hmmm ... Haven't heard from Mugsie lately ... wonder if he's _cloaked? The shell icon suggests Shell though ... Mysterious!
DRAGON, Love. your sense of humor! KATZ, I just checked in to apologize for missing our sync time ... Glad you had a life today too! OPAL and CHERYL, You are both super fast. Hope you don't hurt yourselves trying to prove who is faster. I'm going to give my shoulder a rest this weekend and just check in here to see if Manco and Dragon have any more droll remarks. I have the feeling that the _cloaked name took a page from Dragon's book, and is either a known member of chat or a lurker ... will be interesting to see who it is! ;)
Glad someone was able to sync. Sorry Manco! It didn't work for me either. See you at 12;05 KATZ! If we sync, I'll pay to get the ads off my phone. I already used my two tablets.
KATZ and OPAL, Sometimes it works to start the first word at sync time and sometimes it doesn't. Nobody seems to know why. But it always starts the tournament when you want it to if you complete the whole puzzle except for one known word and complete that word at sync time, so I keep my puzzles with one word open from Thursday night on.
KATZ, If I don't sync at the 7:05 time, I'll try for 12:05 PM PST.
Okay, Looks like SAPPHIRE, DRAGON, MANCO, and I are going to try syncing tomorrow morning, 7:05 Pacific Coast Time.
TONY G., We don't really have a moderator. Paddling Nana started this thread, and the closest thing we have to a moderator. Everyone just responds as they feel like it, and I usually have a lot of free time to answer questions. Have fun with LameName! ;)
Congrats Cheryl and Opsl! You two are both superfast. Should be a great game!
DRAGON and MANCO, what time tomorrow. I didn't sync with the first group.
I'm number100 in my tournament again. Don't see anyone with CHAT by their name. I was probably a second too soon!
Thanks Ruffian. I'll try it too!
Is everyone too worn out from last weekend to try to sync this weekend?
Tony G. The type of competition varies with the people who are playing. We have only been successful at this for a couple of months. At first it was all about chatting with each other during the games by changing our names to let the other people know we were taking a break, encourage each other, etc. We found that we always occupied the top spots and started calling ourselves by team names, like CHATS RULE, CHAT 5, SYNCCESS 6, etc. It didn't really matter what order we finished in. Last weekend 6 of our fastest players synced, and it was more of a true competition for them. I wasn't in it, but I'm sure it was a friendly competition, and they ended up the top six in their tournament, ranging between 10000 and over 15,000. I ended up with OPAL, and we had a few sprints together that convinced me that my top ssprint speed was her cruise level. We joked together about Edgar, whom I nicknamed "Fast Eddie". He seemed really fast at the beginning, but probably ran out of hints, because he petered out. I conceded the win to Opal on Sunday morning, partly due to my shoulder injury, and she went on to win another tournament she was playing in as well, racking up a two game total of over 16000 points for the weekend. I usually prefer to start on Saturday when the competition is slower, as my top score for a weekend is about 7000. The main attraction for me is the in game chat thru name changing, and the camaraderie in this chat site. Hope that answers your question.
Sorry, CHARLIE! I should have said "ATTEMPTED to sync before the 12:05 PM Saturday PST sync time". If you know that your internet is slow, you might want to try starting a few seconds early. Or conversely, if you know it's fast delay for a few seconds. But you should probably spend all of this weekend with your lovely wife anyway.
MANCO, Have you ever had a successful sync? I mix you up with Dragon sometimes because you both have such quirky senses of humor.
OPAL, No need to change your name to protect the innocent! Although I am tempted to change a certain person's name to Jackass! ;)
Okay, CHARLIE and DRAGON, I hear you telling me to play nice! ;) Don't forget to leave one known word open on a puzzle before the tournament starts tomorrow!
OPAL, You're welcome! She basically insulted all of us, but she did mention you by name. Can I come over to your house and watch you play? LOL!
DRAGON, Loved your trollify, trollyness, etc.
MARZYDOATS, You'll find a kinder, gentler group of people on this chat site than on the cheat forum. SYNCERS, I'm not sure who is syncing or when. The 3:11 PM Pacific time (an hour and 11 minutes after the tournament begins) was our most successful time yet, and everyone had already synced by the time 12;05 PM Saturday slot came around.
Hi ELIZABETH, Haven't heard from you in a while, welcome back, and Merry Christmas to you, too!
CHARLIE, Good to hear from you! We'll get you in a sync one of these days!
Hope everyone is having a blessed day!
MANCO, Thanks for the kind words!
DRAGON, Thanks for posting the link to Shell's Australian flavored Christmas Carol. KATZ, I always say something like WEIRD WORD ALERT. That's about as much of a spoiler alert as you can give on here. I always appreciate when others share new words, and others have thanked me for the ones I've shared, especially ZYDECO, which a surprising number of people knew. Does word sharing bother anyone else?
Welcome to our chat, Ayomi and Tony!
PN, you deserve another chip for putting your guests ahead of the game!
And wishing all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays, and a blessed new year!
New word for me: canton
OPAL, If. we had been in the Sync Six group, your combined scores for the two tournaments would have put you in first place, and me in last! Good thing we were only a Terrific Two, so I came in 2nd instead of last! DRAGON, You're a funny guy! Lots of funny people in this thread make it more fun for me than the tournaments!
JEFF, Love the fellow maniacs comment! And great stats, by the way. I can hit your numbers in short sprints, but never maintain that average over 18 hours! CHARLIE, MANCO and others who didn't sync this weekend, better luck next time!
MANCO, CHERYL and others who commented on my rotator cuff injury, THANKS!
CONGRATS to the SYNCCESS SIX!
CHARLIE is already in the 10000+ club.
I'll have to come as someone's date, since I'll never make that score! I'm glad I didn't make that sync. I would have ruined the 10000+ record. Maybe after I get my shoulder fixed I can join the club. Won't get my MRI results til January 6th. Pretty sure I'll need rotator cuff surgery.
OPAL, Congrats on your wins. Interesting that Harold stopped short of beating you. Invite him to our chat group. Sounds like our kind of guy!
OPAL, Go take a ride in your new Cadillac! There can be life DURING Wordscapes too!
Just saw a whole page of comments that I missed ...
EC, Ruffian is a she ... meet Karen! ;)
PN, Definitely an intervention for EC ... And maybe the whole team! But AFTER the tournament is over! ;)
OPAL, I also had stanza last night. Looks like we are close to the same level on in Bloom I'm currently at level 5186.
MANCO, You're a funny guy! I thought I was the only one who dreamed in Wordscapes!
Thanks for the updates on the Sync Six. OPAL and I have been trading back and forth, are currently at:
Fast Eddie. 2796
I think he's only trying to hold onto third, but I'll keep checking so that I can maintain second. I don't plan on playing much today. I can match OPAL for short sprints, but she can maintain my sprint speed for the marathon.
So OPAL, you could match yourself against the Sync Six scores for more competition. I'm happy with second to you, so you can stop waiting for me and see where you end up. They already had a four hour headstart on you! Or work on holding the lead in your OTHER tournament. Just keep an eye on Fast Eddie!
SHELL, AMY and SAPPHIRE, Are you in a tournament together? Need an update! And I solved my hubby's snoring problem by separate bedrooms. My Dad said it's okay for a husband and wife to have separate bedrooms ... as long as they wear out a path between them! ;)
Weird Word Warning
ULAMA alternate spelling for ULEMA
Means a game with a ball
PN, JEFF and DRAGON, Thanks for the updates!
Too bad I'm not in there ... I wouldn't mind being sixth in that group! EMERALD CITY was taking it easy on me when we synced. We spent more time chatting about the Seahawks than playing! ;)
OPAL, Don't wait for me ... I'll be playing in the middle of the night if Fast Eddie makes another run.
So what's happening with the Sync Six?
Too busy playing to update us?
OPAL and I are taking a break. She's 500 ahead of me, and I'm about 2000 ahead of Fast Eddie. He's moving again.
OPAL, you were steadily gaining on me. And then I went to answer the door. Big mistake. Thought it was the gardener, but it was a solar salesman. Then I got equated and equipped in a row. I had one of my good runs before that, but they wear me out. I'm taking a big break, but you go ahead while your hubby is gone. I think Edgar has had the sense to give up! ;)
My "Dream Team" is Paddling Nana, Laura Christina, Emerald City, Opal and ...I haven't played with all of you ... So I'll leave one blank!
OPAL, I have a little time to play while hubby is out shopping. Don't hold back on my account. I think if you run away with it that "Fast Eddie " might take his marbles and go home! ;)
OPAL, I took over first while you were both sleeping.
It might be the last time I'm in first this weekend. I like to try to be first at some point in each tournament. Thought I'd best do it while I had the chance! ;)
DRAGON, Cute about the canoe/ocean connection with the Canoe Queen, PN.
OPAL, we may have to invite "Fast Eddie" to join our chat group to have a clean sweep. You're fast enough to beat him if you feel like it. I don't think I can take second though. I hate to break our top sweep tradition, but I'm claiming injury as an excuse. Just had an MRI on my shoulder. I don't think I can play long enough to make up for my slower speed. So don't wait for me in the morning if you feel like beating Edgar. I'm happy with third to you two.
OPAL, ME TOO!
More fun tomorrow!
Yes, SHELL, I think it might be the first time anyone has tried?
Ready for a break OPAL?
Edgar is FAST!
FUN to see you two back and forth for first. I was only planning to start tonight and put In time tomorrow ... It's after 1 AM your time. I'm going to take a break and try to catch up to you both when my insomnia gets me in the middle of the night.
YAY! OPAL and I synced inIn Bloom!
I see an OPAL. Is it you?
At 8:40 PM PST about 15 minutes?
I'll try then.
I have 2 in blooms.if you don't see this in time.
OPAL, do you want to try to sync tonight and play tomorrow? I forget what time zone you are in.
Looks like Emerald City was just holding back when she played me. She might give PN a run for her money!
OPAL, do you still want to try an In Bloom sync?
OPAL, I Didn't sync with anyone. If you want to try in bloom, pick a time.
MANCO, It was our most successful ssync to date, so you didn't fail!
Congrats to SHELL, AMY and SAPPHIRE!
SHELL, I'll be trying for 7:05 PM PST.
Amazing that you got 6 syncs.
If anyone can keep up with PN (aka the Canoe Queen, aka Land Shark, I'll be amazed. I'm about on par with the rest of the Syncess Six, and she passed me like I was standing still!
Still waiting for a showdown between PN and LCW (Laura Christina)!
MANCO and OPAL, I don't think we're doing anything wrong. I think we just have either slower or faster internet than others.
Anyone trying for 7:05 tonight?
Congrats to Ruffian, Dragon, Jeff, and Emeral City.
Is there a fifth in the group?
I don't think I synced with anyone ... unless you count Delbert ... How many of them can there be?
Marc G, The highest score I've seen was more than 18000. There may have been higher. I have no idea of the highest level scored. It used to only go to level 6000, but they changed it now to what appears to be an infinite number in the Masters level.
Thanks Cheryl, I'll also do the 12:05 PM Saturday tnen.
Okay will try MANCO at 3:11 PM PST on Friday, and SAPPHIRE at 7:05 PM PST on Friday..
Is 5 PM CST 3 PM PST? MANCO, sounds like OPAL and I can try with you then. If it doesn't work, I'll try the 7:05 PM Friday and 12:05 PM Saturday.
MANCO, We've found that, in general, the further from the start time, the better the odds for synccess, as SHELL has called it. Usually the closer to start time, the higher the winning scores and the more competition. We seem to have had our most success with the Friday at 7:05 PM Pacific time, which now that the annoying daylight savings time has the tournament starting at 2:00 PM Pacific would actually now be 6:05 PM Pacific if we figure it at 4 hours after the tournament begins. We had decided to try standardized times that had been successful in the past, which were 7:05 PM Friday, 7:05 AM Saturday and 12:05 PM Saturday. This gave everyone at least one convenient time, considering that we have people from Hawaii, Great Britain, Canada and Australia, as well as the continental US timezones. But if you and OPAL want to try to sync earlier, I can skip the 7:05 AM and try with you and OPAL. I don't like setting the alarm to wake up early to play anyway. So pick a time and I'll try it.
MANCO, If by flirting with 20,000, you mean 20,000 points, you've got the wrong girl! I've never even topped 7000. The odds of you being able to sync with anyone at one minute after the tournament starts are probably about the same as being struck by lightning, but you should at least get some worthy competition. Good luck to you and OPAL
CHARLIE, Thank you for your kind words. I totally agree with you. This unlikely forum has been a strange little oasis of kindness in a world that is often unkind. Thanks, PN, for starting this. SHELL, No worries, I just assumed you were having trouble posting again. Synccess is probably the more logical spelling for your new word.
CHARLIE, Sounds heavenly!
SHELL, Let's stick with syncess! ;)
Paddling Nana, standardized times idea was Shell's.
ANONYMOUS, Yes, we're, mostly grandparents who like silly jokes. You must be very bored and lonely to join us.
Thanks OPAL! I edited my post to include your correction.
SHELL, I see your post. Not personally having difficulty posting. MANCO seemed discouraged that he wasn't able to sync, and I haven't heard from him since that post. I'm sure he'll pop back and try again. CHARLIE, hope you're feeling better after taking out your frustration on the leaf pile. If your grands were there, you'd have an excuse to jump in the leaf piles and lay down and make "snow angels" in them! ;)
VENUS, Welcome to our chat group, begun by Paddling Nana. We play the tournaments every weekend, and have discovered that we can sometimes "sync" with each other and play in the same tournament with each other. We have 3 set times when we try to do this, which are: 7:05 PM on Friday night, 7:05 Saturday morning; and 12:05 Saturday afternoon. Times in Pacific Standard time. For the timezone challenged, like me, the first time is 5 hours and 5 minutes after the tournament begins. If you want to attempt syncing, complete a puzzle all except for one word, which you are sure you know. Do this well before the tournament begins (2 PM PST). Then a few minutes before sync time, open the next level puzzle, and when the clock hits the sync time, complete the last word and you are entered in the tournament. We then use the name feature to add CHAT_ to our name, so that we can quickly see if we are in the same tournament with anyone. We try to stay in the top five spots so that we can communicate brief messages to each other by changing our names to encouraging or humorous messages. It doesn't always work, being affected by internet speeds, etc. I doubt that the game owners intended this, but we're having great fun with it. The unwritten rules for the chat are that we don't discuss politics, religion or other divisive topics, try to keep on topic with the game, and in general be good sports. We have so far been successful at winning all of the top spots in the games where we have synced.
Have ya'all heard about JEFF and SHELL? LOL
Good thing you have a few continents between you! ;)
Emerald City, Yes, you need help. Paddling Nana will have to help me drag you to a meeting of WordAholicsAnonymous! Psychically call me again if Fast Eddie starts challenging again! LOL
KATZ, Thanks, they're worth the wait! Time to pay a little attention to hubby. TTYL
SAPPHIRE and PN, Yes, other people are trying syncing. I've been answering questions on how to sync on this and other forums. And yes, it sounds like two people are tag teaming you, SAPPHIRE.
DRAGON, PN, SMITTY and others who are trying to figure out the glitch in dictionaries, thanks for your efforts. If I can get DRAGON'S word list, I'd love it. Hate that so many words are wasted and don't count.
EMERALD CITY, Thanks for sharing some insomnia time with me. I'm going to stop playing and just check in from time to time to sustain second place. Don't wait for me if you feel like playing. I don't have the energy to give you a challenge. Will post comments in name change periodically. Wonder what others think of our chat! TOUCHDOWN has too many letters to be a weird word! Speaking of weird words, I had ZYDECO again. I hadn't seen BASALT/BALSA before that I remember.
Turns out Emerald City and I had synced after all. I didn't see her because she didn't have chat by her name, and I was barely awake from my alarm going off at 7 AM. It didn't take long to get to the top 5, and now I'm in second, 2000 points behind Emerald City. So the chats rule the top spots in all three tournaments we synced in!
OPAL, I KNOW! Didn't think I could ever love anyone more than my kids, until I held my Granddaughter!
CHARLIE, ask Santa for a new phone or notebook this Christmas! ;)
I think I synced with you this morning. I ditched the game when I didn't see CHAT next to anyone's name. I'm way down at the bottom. Will try to work my way up to top 5 so you can see me.
THANKS for all the congrats! CHARLIE, When you're a Great Grandfather, let me know if it's even better!
DRAGON, That would explain a lot, if there are different versions of the game with different dictionaries. Several times people have claimed to have numbers of bonus words that didn't seem possible. I even spent a couple of weeks working with an anagram solver and trying every word, and couldn't get close to their numbers. And people have listed words that don't work on my puzzles.
Just had duo, and tried oud and udo ... It wouldn't take either. Did it take them for you?
Thanks SHELL! I didn't think I'd live to see another, she didn't think she could have kids. 34 and never happened. So happy for her!
CHARLIE, You're right! Nothing is grander than time with the grands! I've been dying to tell someone that I'm expecting another grand in late July. My daughter doesn't want to tell people until she's through her first trimester, but we're all anonymous so you get to be first to hear the news! I'm over the moon happy about it!
DRAGON, Thanks for oud (an expensive perfume oil made from moldy infected trees) and udo (a Japanese herb).
Congrats to Dragon and Katz, but that wordsmith is not me. I'm not with anyone who has CHAT next to their name. There are lots of wordsmiths out there. That's why I chan%ed mine to WordSmithwick, part of my last name, and was abbreviated to WSW.
AMY, CHERYL and RUFFIAN! You're going to have to stop meeting like this! ;) I'm blaming the stupid bees for messing me up this time, but I'm 0 for 3 this weekend. Any others who were left out want to try a sync on In bloom?
PN, SHELL is right. We had so many opt for 11:58 AM PST this week that we decided to leave it for this week and go for all :05 times next week. Hope you see this before then!
SHELL & JEFf, So glad you synced again! CHARLIE, You and I can just enjoy watching PN, OPAL and LCW whizzing by us in the fast lane! ;) Trying again at 11:58 AM PST.
DRAGON, everyone seems to think they synced with you, and you've gone incognito again. Someone changed their name to HAHA, and I thought it might be you! ;)
OPAL, No that was Paddling Nana.
I'm n Pacific Coast time zone, Southern California.
Looks like no one synced tonight, but I have two more devices and two more sync time tomorrow. Manco, maybe next time!
Anyone sync? Unless Dragon is incognito again, I didn't sync with anyone. I'll try again tomorrow.
JEFF, Thanks for answering my siren sync summons! ;) Fun to see that you and SHELL were in the top 5 with very little effort
DRAGON, Too funny that my final sync word is sync, and that you managed a segue for your final word of cue.
SAPPHIRE, It was Shell's idea to set up the same times every week. So simple that I don't know why no one thought of it before.
CHARLIE is too modest to say that he hit 10000 points in one tournament. The highest I've ever seen was an M.Tsunami at 18000.
I seriously thought that might be a bot. My high is only around 6000, and my shoulder hurt so much the next day that I haven't played that much since.. OPAL, LYN, CHERYL, PN, MANCO, MUGSIE, LAUREL, AMY, CHERYL, KATZ, JACKATZ, (Who am I forgetting? ) Hope we have lots of syncs this week, especially for those who haven't yet experienced syncing ...
For the ironic among us ... the last word I'm keeping open to begin the tournament is SYNC! ;)
CHERYL K-P, Thanks! I had forgotten that we were the top 4, not five. I think I felt so much a part of the weekend where Jeff described the CHAT 5, that I confused the two! Speaking of JEFF, where are you? Jaqkats was wrong. I'm not preoccupied with syncing in the tournaments, I'm obsessed! I could have worse addictions! ;)
SHELL, Great idea! For this weekend we will have start times of 7:05 PM Friday night, 7:05 AM Saturday, and 11:58 AM Saturday (All in Pacific coast time). Thereafter, we'll keep the two 7:05 times, and change the 11:58 AM time to 12:05 PM Saturday afternoon for consistency.. Any objections?
AMY, You're welcome! As far as I know, entering the chat has no bearing on when your game starts.
LYN, I live in Southern California, and I'm not giving that up for SNOW! I lived in Erie, PA for 10 years, and have not so fond memories of wind chill factors of 50 below! No, thank you!
DRAGON, OPAL, CHARLIE and other syncers, hope to see you at 11:58 Saturday morning Pacific time!
Anonymous, if you want to try to sync with us, we are starting games Friday night at 7:05 PM PST and Saturday morning at 11:58 AM PST (2:58 PM Eastern Time Zone) Otherwise set a start time with your friend. Then before the tournament begins (2 PM PST) complete all of the words in a puzzle except for one (preferably a three letter word with all but one space filled in.) PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PUZZLE SET UP WITH ONLY ONE WORD LEFT BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT BEGINS!!!
Then at the predetermined time, swipe in the last word.
You will both be added to a tournament of 100 players, and hopefully you will be in the same tournament. We add CHAT_ to our names to make it easier to find each other. Good luck to you!
SHELL, OPAL AND???
I'll use my second device to also sync with you two at 7:05 PST PM Friday night.
LYN, My most recent immigrants were in 1850 from England, and the "u" was retained thru five generations. It ended with my generation. My language is still coloured with English spelling and colloquialisms from time to time. ;)
SYNCERS: Looks like most people are opting for the 11:58 AM Saturday morning Pacific time slot. And looks like no one has a massive amount of time to play this weekend. So I'm going to stick with the 11:58 AM Pacific time slot.
AMY, Bake us some gingerbread men ...
"Run, run as fast as you can
You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!
Remember to set up your puzzles well before the start time of 2:00 PM Friday and to add CHAT_ to your name; so we can easily see who has synced. Looking forward to seeing as many people synced as possible!
CHERYL, I had forgotten that we were the original CHAT FIVE!
Okay, definitely trying for 11:58 Saturday AM Pacific time.
PADDLING NANA, SAPPHIRE, JEFF, OPAL, LAURA C, MUGSY, MANCO, DRAGON (Or whoever you are today!) Any other Lurky Loos out there who want to find out why we are obsessed with Syncing? I know I've forgotten a few people, but don't be offended. That's why my brother calls me Valsheimer! I have two more devices and can try for two more sync times ...
CHARLIE, I was thinking you were in EST. Isnt 9 PM PST midnight for you? Although SAPPHIRE and AMY are looking for late Friday night.
LYN, I'll definitely try for 11:58 AM PST..
CHERYL, You have yet to sync. What's the best time for you?
KATZ, How does 11 AM Pacific time Saturday morning sound to you? I think that gives AMY In Hawaii a better start time. SAPPHIRE, what works for you?
I'd like to try a couple of times that work for people who haven't been able to sync yet, like CHERYL and LYN from England. Still want to see a game between Paddling Nana and Laura Christina! They are both out of my speed zone, but fascinating to watch!
I'm open for three times this weekend. Let me know when people want to try. The earliest one last Friday didn't work for anyone. I liked the later time on Saturday morning though. Suggestions?
Paddling Nana and Charlie Lu! Love the group and your senses of humor!
If you think we are "exclusive" because we don't want "trolls" perhaps you should look up the meaning of internet trolls. They are people who deliberately try to cause quarrels and dissension. Why would we welcome them to this forum? We all enjoy playing the game and making both helpful and humorous comments. We ask people not to make political or other divisive comments, and try to stay on topic with the game. We enjoy "syncing" with each other and communicating thru changing our names during the tournament. Adding CHAT_ to our names at the start of a game helps us to quickly identify each other. I was one of those who invited you to the forum because of your humorous reply on the cheating site. If you don't enjoy the comments here, just stop reading them. Problem solved.
BUFFY, we usually start the tournament with CHAT_ at the beginning of our names. I go by CHAT_WSW, short for WordSmithwick. DRAGON, Sorry I missed most of the conversation with you and KATZ, sounds like it was fun. I got the real photo by signing in thru Facebook, but it sounds like you were mimicking others' names and icons ...
ISAIAH KOCH, sounds like you have passed level 6000 and are now in the Masters Levels. The game used to end there, but now continues infinitely. PADDLING NANA, you are awarded another chip for good sportsmanship from WAA ... WordAholicsAnonymous! I hope more are able to sync next weekend. I don't have any plans; so I'll be able to play more.
The coins can be used to purchase hints. The lightbulb gives you one random letter, usually at the beginning of a word, and costs 100 coins. The arrow through a bullseye costs 200 coins and gives you one directed letter by tapping the tile you want to reveal. The rocket costs 300 coins and gives you five random letters. Bees can only be purchased with real money either by themselves or in a package with other types of hints. These will pop up at random times on your screen. Be sure to set up your google play or its equivalent on apple devices to avoid one click purchases. It's very easy to accidentally purchase with real money in packages of up to $39.95. You can also go to the shopping cart to buy coins, rockets, bullseyes and bees, which will also cost real money.
As far as I can remember, bees can only be purchased with real money, unless they randomly pop up on your screen as a daily gift. (The little boxes that have bows on them, where you choose one of three boxes.) The crossed lines at the upper left of the circled letters scrambles the letters, and is free for as many times as you want to use it. Hope this helps you.
CHARLIE! WELCOME BACK! We've missed your wit and humor!
KATZ, Sorry I was no competition this week. I'm glad DRAGON kept you busy. Since I'm a pretty solid third right now, we are still a top three sweep for the chat group. Want to change our names to CHAT_RULES?
KATZ, JEFF, and SHELL, I agree. Play as long as you are having fun, and quit when it's not fun anymore.
MANCO and all who are struggling to sync. It's essential that you set up your puzzle(s) BEFORE the tourney starts on Friday (2 PM Pacific time on Friday night.) Then at sync time you finish the last word of your puzzle that was set up with only one word uncompleted. I try to leave a 3 letter word with two boxes already filled; so I am sure I enter the right word. If you haven't set up your puzzles ahead of time, you won't be able to sync. I think OPAL And her hubby were able to do this at home by finishing their last word at the same time, but that only worked because they were right next to each other to time it right.
KATZ, I'd like to think they see two people with CHAT at the top of the list and just give up due to our fearsome reputation! LOL!
Weird word warning. ... TAXA is back!
SAPPHIRE, CHERYL, and LYN ... sorry we didn't sync.
KATZ, I started out way down at the bottom at 67 and 99. I'm ditching the one on my phone.
KATZ and I have kept the tradition by taking the top two spots. She's about 200 points ahead of me, but I'll probably be passed now that I'm taking a break to get ready for the party and an overnight stay. Don't wait for me Katz! Have fun everyone!
KATZ, I synced with you, and myself again. I waited a few seconds and used my third device, since there were no more syncs this weekend to double my chances of syncing.
I have a Christmas party for hubby's work tonight and won't be playing much unless his snoring keeps me awake in the hotel room tonight! ;)
Sorry Manco and all. I was still getting my mani pedi when my alarm went off, and couldn't start with wet nails. Anyone trying for 7;05 Pacific time tonight? If not my next start will be tomorrow at 11:58 AM with SAPPHIRE & ?
For those who didn't get their last puzzle in before start time, I start leaving one known word unplayed on Thursday on each of my devices. That way I don't have to remember them all and if I play between Thursday and Friday, I just leave another word open on my final puzzle before it starts.
Jeff, Really cool about the tie!
Manco, could be your server is slower, or faster than ours. I can't say I hold out much hope for that start time, but you never know!
OPAL, My best guess is that the Masters level continues forever, recycling old puzzles and throwing in a few new ones here and there. I'm around level 4700 currently.
SAPPHIRE, THANKS! Hope to sync with you on Saturday, or one of the other times! Good luck to everyone trying to sync this weekend. SAPPHIRE's directions are your best chance.
Paddling Nana set up this chat to get away from the whiners on the cheating site. Charlie usually provides a humorous response to some of the worst offenders over there, and you were a worthy substitute for him. He's traveling, and we hope to hear from him soon. Keep an eye out for our sync times for this Friday and Saturday if you'd like to attempt to enter the same tournament with some of us.
SIGH, CHERYL, KATZ and SAPPHIRE ...
Is it 11:58 Eastern, 8:58 Pacific on Saturday AM?
Or 11:58 Pacific?
I was thinking KATZ and SAPPHIRE are both Pacific, and the 11:58 was Pacific time. Then I noticed 8:58 EST on CHERYL'S post, which totally messed with my brain! A mind is a terrible thing to lose!
Okay, Friday at 3:03 PM with MANCO, OPAL, CHERYL & ? Although I don't expect much success that early in the tournament.
7:05 PM with AMY and ?
Saturday at 11:58 AM with SAPPHIRE and KATZ and ?
All in PST.
CHERYL, I ditch the ones where I don't sync with anyone. Even those of us in WAA (as OPAL called it) only have two hands!
OPAL, there are still two butterflies in the daily puzzles, and still ladybug levels. If you touch the 3 dots in the top left corner, you will see that there are 3500 levels before it goes to Masters levels. I still have the butterflies in the one where I have completed less than 3500, but haven't noticed any in my In Bloom with 4500 levels completed. Maybe they drop off at Masters level?
I have 3 devices loaded with Wordscapes now. (Yes, I am in Wordaholics Anonymous!) So I'm going to try to sync with Manco at 3:03 PM Pacific on Friday night, and have two more times to play with. I vaguely recall some suggesting a later time on Saturday morning than our usual 7:05 AM. If so, I'd prefer later so I don't have to set my alarm to wake up at 7 on a Saturday morning. I may stick with the Friday 7:05 PM time, since it's most convenient for me and we've had the most success at that time. Any other suggestions?
OPAL, THANKS ... It was 3:03, not 3:05 PM PST. Will continue to pray. What is his first name? Although I imagine God know who I mean when I pray for Opal's hubby. ;)
I had forgotten that CHARLIE was going to be traveling.
Good scores SAPPHIRE!
Has anyone heard from CHARLIE? Haven't heard from him in a bit, and I got a little worried when he had no witty repartee for Jessica on the cheat thread. Prayers for CHARLIE aand LAURA and her Mum, and OPAL and her hubby.
MANCO, 3:05 PM PST on Friday it is! No worries about trying to set up next weeks sync during this weeks tournament. It gives those of us who missed out this week something to look forward to!
HI Everyone! I was able to fly during a tournament yesterday. I tried playing while in the air. The little "no wifi" icon came up, and I wasn't able to add points to my score. I tried taking it off "airplane mode" for a few minutes, but the "no wifi" icon was still there. As much as I didn't like it when people used airplane mode to sneak ahead at the end of a tournament, I wasn't able to play for about 8 hours. Glad I wasn't synced this weekend. Speaking of which, CONGRATS, OPAL! Thanks for winning one for the team! And congrats to the others too. We've gotta get bearfoot on our team! PN and JEFF, congrats on a tie! How did they do the points? And cool that our two newest members synced with each other!
Word for today chancel.
ELVESTINKLE, I think scree works, if that makes you feel any better! ;)
I like the idea of "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" and inviting fast players to join us! Sounds like we had 3 successful syncs this week. Manco, I'll try to sync with you if you give me the time in PST. Is that 3:03 PM for me? Although we haven't had much success that early in the tournament. I'll have my second device by then, so I can try again later if we don't sync.
Pet peeve ... When you get a really great word like lealty, and it doesn't fit the puzzle (lately), and it doesn't even count as a bonus word!
PADDLING NANA, Sounds like a glorious day!
PN and JEFF! Happy that you were able to connect! I tried, but my daughter has a slow internet connection. I will be flying tomorrow during the tournament; so I can check to see if you can accumulate points when you are literally in airplane mode!
I don't think I synced with anyone. My daughter was leaving for Tennessee just as the tournament was beginning; so I swiped in and turned it off. I didn't have _CHAT and no one else did either. Going to try to make top five; so if there is anyone they'll see my WSW_CHAT name. Hope PN and LAURA were able to sync. Anyone else synced up this morning?
Congrats to the new CHAT FIVE! CHERYL, If you have a second device you can try again tomorrow at 7:05 PST
Paddling Nana and Opal, I can almost ALWAYS see the humor in someone else's kids or grands melting down. That, or a relief that it's not mine this time! Sounds like the two of you are going to try to sync tomorrow morning which works out well for me this weekend, since I'm visiting the east coast and it will be 10:05 AM Eastern. I also have a sometimes dark and usually bizarre sense of humor that most people don't get. Hubby and I are on the same wave length. I think he married me because I was the first person to laugh at his jokes, and not just stare at him as if he'd lost his mind! ;)
SHELL, I am able to check the time on my Samsung tablet while waiting for the countdown by swiping down from the top. I ignore all of the options and just watch the clock. As soon as it hits 7:05 I swipe the last word to enter the tournament. But no one seems to be time zone challenged except me, and ya'll are kind enough to use EST or PST, so nevermind! ;)
Would it avoid the time zone dilemma to state the sync time as a certain number of hours after the tournament begins?
Thanks! Ours started out well, with a game of clue. Then my 8 year old Granddaughter wanted to put the decorations (pine cones, leaves and other detritus) all around the outside of the table. She had a meltdown when I wanted to move enough of them to put plates down. Fortunately, well before the actual dinner!
Paddling Nana and All, I like the idea of two start times, and like having them at the same time 7:05 PM Friday and 7:05 AM Saturday Pacific time for ease of reference. Although I can't wrap my brain around how that affects people who haven't been cursed by Daylight Savings Time. I may not try again this weekend unless I've had too much family time by then!
EMERALD CITY, Perhaps you already took the hint that political comments are not welcome here. This has been a friendly refuge for kindred spirits who love word games, and we'd like to keep it that way. I loved the story about where you grew up. It sounds similar to the farm I grew up on in Western Pennsylvania, except that we didn't have horses. Our small community (outside a booming metropolis of 5000 - LOL) of people traded eggs, vegetables, raw milk and beef. My grandfather raised honeybees, and we picked wild berries in the woods surrounding our land. Literally raised in a land of milk and honey. I miss those days.
SAPPHIRE, Thanks for the link on Discord. I tried signing up on the link ELVESTINKLES provided, but not sure if I did it right. I'm not really interested in video or voice chat, but there is supposed to be a text chat of some kind. So far I'm the only one who signed up.
LYN BENSON, What time zone are you in?
Saw Frozen 2 today with my 8 year old granddaughter. Visually spectacular. Don't recommend for young or easily frightened children. Several complex layers and themes to keep adults interested, possibly difficult for some kids to follow. Sorry! I know this is off topic, but with the holiday weekend coming up and a lot of grandparents on here, felt a warning might be in line. Personally I loved it.
CHAT 5 ... YAY! I enjoyed your recap of the tourney almost as much as if I were in it!
SOOZ and ELVESTINKLE, Welcome to our chat group of kindred spirits. I am leery of clicking on links in a chat forum, and I don't understand what yours is supposed to do ... please explain. I also enjoy the down to the last minute races you described.
I also use hints when I am really stuck. That's what they are for. I generally get stuck on the extra word that is separate from the rest of the puzzle, and usually can get through the tournament using only a few. When I first started playing, I only used hints during the week, and didn't use them during a tournament. Then when I got really stuck, I used a hint, but would let another person win, because it didn't seem fair. When I accumulated about 10,000 coins, I just started letting other people win because I didn't need them. I try to stay around 10,000 now. Something to consider for the half hour challenge that was suggested by (was it JEFF?)
Do we set a limit on number of hints used during the challenge? Do we separate those who play with ads from those who don't? Do we pick a start time, possibly to coincide with the first half hour of a sync time, since presumably it is convenient to all those who try to sync then? I'm giving myself a headache!
JEFF and the Chat 5, glad you are holding our tradition of trying to hold the top spots! I also love Jeff's analogy. Ruffian and I just don't seem to have it in us this weekend. I've dropped to third overnight, and done. I am finally going to see my Granddaughter today. Pray for traveling mercies for me today, and for all those traveling in the heavier traffic and plane schedules this week, as we are literally traveling together in this world.
OPAL, I'd still like to see you and LAURA and Paddling Nana in a sync. I'm finally going to see my Granddaughter tomorrow after many delays! RUFFIAN, I'm probably done for the tournament. I've been passed by one, and another was drawing near as I stopped for the night. Have fun tomorrow. As the tournament closes, I'll be on the road.
Ruffian, my plans have been delayed another day, so I can play for a bit today. Going to try to catch up with the person who passed you and see how she responds. Seems like no one has played since last night.
KATZ, Thanks for reminding me of the "little ruffians" comment! And Ruffian, thanks for adding CHAT to your name. It really helps to identify our chat group. I caught up to third place. I probably won't be in the top five for long. My daughter and I were supposed to drive to see my other daughter and Granddaughter last night, so I wasn't planning on playing this weekend. As soon as I see my Granddaughter, all else fades from vision! ;)
Sorry not everyone was able to sync. It's happening so often that we are starting to forget how unlikely it is that ANYof us would sync, much less 7 of us this weekend! But the more often you try, the better the odds.
Is Chat_Ruffian one of ours?
I'm at 98 because I didn't see anyone and bailed.
Will try to work my way up to 5 and chat with Ruffian
YAY! Anyone else? Glad someone synced! I actually tried, but don't see any familiar names or anyone with CHAT_ before their name. God's way of keeping me from letting Wordscapes take away from my family time this weekend!
Thanks to everyone for all of the well wishes for my trip, and I wish the same to all of y
